Nae bother, i drew it myself :P

I had a spare credit for SP and checked the John D McKinlay in the 1881 census.

Its for 44 Main Street in Thornliebank (Eastwood).

Alexander McKinlay Head 33 Printfield Worker born Glasgow
Martha McKinlay      Wife  29 Housekeeper      born Thornliebank
Donald McKinlay      Son   8   Scholar                born Thornliebank
John D McKinlay       Son  3   Scholar                 born Pollokshaws
Janie McKinlay         Dau  5m                             born Pollokshaws

Pollokshaws is the next village to Thornliebank but in Glasgow and not in Renfrewshire.

Had a quick check for births in Glasgow and there is a birth for John Dunachie McKinlay in 1878 for Eastwood, Glasgow. I think this must be your guy!

Happy hunting!

Splendid! I wonder if that might be a good place to look for his mother? A local but different birth suggests 'going home to mum' to me!

At that time Pollokshaws was part of Renfrewshire it didn't "move" into Glasgow until the annexation around the late 1920's although Scotlands People seem to ignore this in their indexing (applies to some other areas as well)
