THOMPSON family of Preston, Lancashire

My great g/f, William Thompson, was born in 1837 in Preston and I have no idea whom his parents were.  He emigrated to New Zealand and married a widow, Eliza Beck (formerly Payne) in Wellington in 1874.  The couple had four children:  William (DOB?) Agnes Eliza (1879) my g/f Robert Payne Thompson (1881) and Samuel George Payne Thompson (1883) - these last three children in Dunedin.  In the 1890's, the family moved to Australia, to the Blue Mts. area outside Sydney.

I would be grateful for any information linking me to the Thompsons of Preston (or anything else for that matter   ).

Are you doing a One Name Study on the entire family name or are you just after information on these particular individuals?
