Surname interest (THOMPSON) from Preston

My great grandfather was William Thompson, born in Preston, Lancashire in 1837.  I have no knowledge of his parents but he emigrated to New Zealand where he appears to have married a widow, Eliza Beck (maiden name Payne) in 1874.  The couple had four children William (DOB?) Agnes Eliza (1879) my g/f Robert Payne Thompson (1881) and Samuel George Payne Thompson (1883).  These children seem to have been born in Dunedin and the family again emigrated to Australia C1891, living around the Blue Mts. area.  

Can anyone connect me to their line or at least give me a suggestion, given the information I have?

Have you tried the St Catherines Index yet ???

I found a site looking a Thompson's from Preston, maybe it worth making contact with the owner of this family tree maybe they may be able to help !

I am replying to your post because Robert Payne Thompson of Dunedin, New Zealand would be my 2nd Great Grandfather. I use Family Tree Maker software, and could forward information if you would like.. I know bits and pieces.
