Overseas Ancestry
« on: Friday 17 September 04 11:09 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any ideas about how to start tracing the Austrian side of the family?  While we have good tracks for my wife's late father - a Londoner with clear roots in Devon - her mother was born in Brun!  Her maternal grandparents were named Meixner - he was an officer in the Austrian cavalry and we actually have a family portrait currently being restored.  That's as far as it goes.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Hi David,

I also have austrian ancestry and have been "looking around" on the internet.

There are some tips on the Immigrants" board already, and I am also publishing useful links and  tips there, so may I suggest, that re-post your query there ?  That way, other like-minded researchers can also see it.

I'll add Meixner to my search list and see what I can come up with.
