Weston, Herts 1841 Census Lookup Please

hi could anyone help me out . i am looking for james thompson born about 1816 in weston herts. in the 1851 cenus he is living in weston herts with his wife elizabeth(smith born graveley,herts) and their children eliza born 1850, elizabeth born 1839, mary born 1843, phillip born 1836, sarah born 1847 and william born 1845. would like to know if he has the same birth place as cannot find a birth at hertford record office. any info on james or perhaps his father would be greatfully welcome. thanks...gill

Hi Gill,

The 1861 records James age 34, baker and Elizabeth 30 living at Damask Green,Weston,  with four children, Mary 7,  George 5,  Thomas 3, and Walter 1. All born in Weston.

James birthplace is shown as Norton, Herts and Elizabeth's as Gt.Morden, Cambridgeshire.

The IGI records two births at Norton circa 1816, George and George Adam Thompson both offspring of William and Sarah Thompson.  Did one subsequently  assume the  name James?

Something to think about.

hi, this is a poser you say that they are on the 1861c or did you mean the 1841c?
james thompson is my grt grt grandfather he was born abt 1814-1816. his youngest son james thompson was born in 1852 on the 14th april weston herts. i have the certificates to proove this. his mother was elizabeth thopmson nee smith. james(1852) moved to graveley and married mary griggs her father john was the blacksmith of graveley herts.they had my nan ethel thompson in 1885 in graveley. they ran the waggon and horses there.
the 1851c is showing james born 1814 in weston herts
the 1861c is showing him born 1816 weston herts
like you though was wondering if he was actually in norton that is why i asked for info from the 1841c
if your info does come from the 1841c thankyou confusing though as elizabeth is showing as being born on them in graveley herts. like to hear from you again.....gill

Hi Gill,

As the 1841 only indicates whether a person was born in county, I searched the 1861 in an effort to solve the problem of James birthplace and have obviously found the wrong James Thompson in Weston.  Please accept my apologies.

Hi Gillian

As Peter has stated, the 41 does not give exact places of birth, but this looks like the family in 41.  Ages on the 41 are also often rounded down to nearest 5.
