Need Help, advice, a miracle!!!
« on: Saturday 14 January 06 00:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

could someone please help with this info that I found on the 1901 census of Wales it gives and Alexander Robertson as being born in what looks like the  Parish of old daw, Aberdeen. Any one got any ideas as to where this place might be?? and where would be best to find a chr/birth record for him.

The piece is RG13/5184 page 20 he is aged 31

If anyone wants to take a look and see what they make of it.

I NEED HELP please

Angela.

Thanks Prue,

I was wondering that but don't know anything about Aberdeen and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I'm useless at scotish and welsh dilect and have been making strange noises at my screen trying to think how a welsh enumerator would hear a scottish man's home place...

Is there anywhere I can check out the 1871 census for Aberdeen and see if I could find him as a baby do you know?? That might give me a better idea of which parish he could be in??

Thanks for your help

Angela.

Don't know how it would sound in a Scottish accent to someone in Wales, but there is an Old Machar and a Newmachar near Aberdeen :) :)
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hi Nessie,

I found old Machar but don't think its likely or the other one but hey...census often lead us astray so I'm not discounting it.
The IGI wasn't any help as there is over 30 chr for Alexander Robertson in Aberdeen but none that fits with the entry on the census. I need to find him on the 1871 when he was a baby and that might help narrow down the parish for me.
Thanks for your help.

all the best Angela.

You can find the 1871 census online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk , This is a pay per view site but £6 will get you 30 credits which shoulkd be enough to locate the person you are looking for. You can enter the name and approx age at the time of the census to narrow the search aand get the best "hit rate".

Thanks again Sherlock... There are so many possibities.

Have just been able to find his marriage so I'm going to send for that and that will at least give me his fathers name and maybe from where he came. Then I can start eliminating him from census etc.

Thanks for all your help.

Angela.
