1861 Census look up - Keziah Patrick
« on: Thursday 12 January 06 18:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me again today.

I'd like to know where and who with Keziah Patrick was living at the time of the 1861 Census.

She was aged between 8 and 10, was born in Birmingham and was possibly living in Sheffield (Ecclesall Bierlow).

Thanks
Carol

Dear Carol, I have just discovered this query from you which gives me so much excitement and the need for more information.Keziah Patrick, daughter of Joseph Patrick B utton Maker inSheffield Yorkshire. She was the sister to Sarah, who married Reuben Whitehouse. They had a son  Reuben born 1869 who married M ary Sophia Fern. Who also had a son John Willie Whitehouse, my Father.born 1899 in Beighton Derbyshire. Soon after, his Father Reuben, was killed accidently at work.I think hardship fell on the family because my Father was fostered out, spent time in Dr Barnados Home and joined up in the 1914 war age 14.I would dearly love to hear from you and all about you Maureen Whitehouse Taylor

Hello Maureen. It's nice to hear from someone with a mutual ancestor. Joseph Patrick is my mum's and your great great grandfather (I think). Keziah married Robert Myers. She appears to have died in the 1880s as on the 1891 census, robert is married to someone else and their daughter Emily is living with Keziah's brother Edward and his wife. She would have been in her 30s when she died. As far as I'm aware her family came from Birmingham and were pearl button makers and carders. I don't really know anything else about them as I got sidetracked following another line. I think you've just got me back on track! Kind regards, Carol

footnotes to the 1861 household listed above...

The address is 'at back' Garden Street.
The ecclesiastical district is St Mary's [Bramall Lane].
The 10 year old Sarah has a 'do' in the occupation column suggesting she was also a pearl button maker.
The father's birthplace is Netherseal. This appears to be in Derbyshire, though right on the border with Leicestershire. Perhaps the county boundary has shifted.
