Patrick Higgins with a father Michael Higgins
« on: Thursday 12 January 06 08:53 GMT (UK) »
I realize that this is even at less odds than finding a needle in the proverbial haystack but I will give it a whirl and hope.
My great grandfather was a Patrick Higgins and the mean age from English census's etc would have him born abt 1834, On one census in addition to the POB as Ireland the enumerator pencilled in Galway, the only other information I have taken from Patricks marriage certificate is that his father was Michael Higgins whose occupation was a mason.
Fingers crossed and hit "Post"

Hi Dennis

During my own search for family in Tuam, Galway and fruitless I might add! I did collect two baptisms for Higgins that you might like to keep in case they miraculously might later fit in. They are from the R.C. Register.

The baptisms only went up to 1804 and I did not collect any other information that would be relevant to your search as I am only looking for c1790. I did check the marriages to about 1815, nothing there I am afraid, and I was not specifically looking for Higgins.

25 Oct 1803 Michael son of Bernard Higgins and Mary McCormick,
Sponsors: James Mc Cormick and Catherine McCormick

18 Nov 1803 Patt. son of Michael Higgins and Cate Toole
Sponsors: Patt.Toole and Cath. Mann

Miracles do occasionally happen!
Best of luck,
Pat

Just found a site which may be of use to you ( and it's free )
www.myirishancestry.com/index.php/plain/user/login
This gives details of the Griffith Valuation Tables for Galway and lists the head of households and details of their property. The tables were compiled around 1855.

I too am descended from a Higgins; Nora Higgins (1813-1845) She was married to John McCormick. After she died, he left Galway with their 3 sons: Patrick, Michael and James, and moved to England.

Hi all

Adding to the thread in the hope of finding my own little miracle ...

Bridget Higgins (circa 1819) married Richard Burke (circa 1821) sometime between 1838-1846 ... somewhere in Ireland! They had children Patrick (1846) and Mary (1853).

A million to one shot I know, but does anyone think they might have information on Bridget Higgins??!

Sorry for jumping in on your post Dennis - hope you manage to find something.

Regards, Julie
