Please could some one help!! I am looking for any information on

Michael Burney aged 24 in 1911 he married a
Sarah Ann Baker who was aged 34 at the time of her marriage.
They lived at 28 Oriel Street in Clayton.

There son Herbert Burney was born in 1915 at 2 Clayton Gardens Manchester.

Any information on siblings and other family would be a grate help thanks.

Perhaps you know what we don't and that's his father's name and occupation from the marriage certificate.  It's the only way to confirm that this is the right family, but it's the only one I can find in Lancashire.

Sorry, Michaels dad was called John Burney in 1911 he had passed away. this was on Michaels marriage cert. I have found a John and Esther Burney living at 6 Clayton street which I believe is just around the corner from where Michael Burney lived in 1915. But this could be the wrong family.

Where have you found this John and Esther Burney? is it on the 1901 census? presumably there was no Michael at home with them.  We could check the 1891 census for this family to see if he is there, if you will give us the details of the 1901 entry, names ages, children, reference numbers, otherwise it's difficult for us to find the one you are referring to.

Sorry Mary,
                  I am not very good at this!! But I got this information from a census I got from Ancestry. I cannot remember which year it was from as it was a few weeks ago. But this is the information that was on the census :

John Wm Burney - Head - 31 - wood sawyer - Ireland.
Esther Burney - 29 - wife - Manchester
John W Burney - son - 6 - scholar - Manchester.
Samuel Burney - son - 3 - Manchester
Elizabeth burney - daughter - 2 - Manchester
James H Burney -son - 6months - Manchester

They all lived at 6 Clayton Street.

For your files, that was the 1891 census RG12/3234 Manchester Ancoats Folio 41 Page 3.

But if you are correct and your Michael was 24 in 1911 then he would have been born approximately 1887 and although there is a gap in the children he could have slotted, I would have expected him to be home with the family.

Although the marriage certificate stated "deceased" did it not still say the father's occupation?  What was Michael's occupation?

                     Michael's occupation in 1911 was that he worked as a laborer in the Chemical works and his father John was a corporation Laborer. I so sorry for sending you on a goose chase. Kellie

There's another alternative in 1891 - I know the age is a bit out but then if he was even younger than he admitted at his marriage and his wife was 10 years older then he could have fibbed a little bit.

I know Bereney isn't spelt the same but say it aloud with an Irish accent!

We will try anything to help, but we don't have a lot to work with at present and I'm wondering whether there are any family members who you could prise some memories of this man out of them. 

My other suggestion is to try to get his birth certificate.  There are two ways to go about this, the first is best and cheapest, if you can get to a Record Office and check the indexes for a few years around his birth, there seems to be a shortage of Michael Burneys about so hopefully you might touch lucky.  If you can't get to a record office then you can try www.1837online.com which has the complete set of indexes although it is a pay site.  First of all you could try to narrow down those that you would have to pay for by using the "View Images" on http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ but they may not have the complete set.

If you can get the birth certificate it will tell you where they were living when he was born and also his mother's name, including her maiden name.  I just keep my fingers crossed that he was born in England and not Ireland but with a name like Burney I would expect his father if not both parents were Irish.
