I got my grandfathers birth certificate from Sunderland and I did it from my computer. I cant remember where I found the record. Is there a site for Sunderland which you can search for records. I grandfather was born in Seaham Harbour.

Have a look at this site, it only offers Marriage records at the moment but promises to have others on line in the next year or so:

http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/pages/registrars/

You may be wise to pay a visit to the Durham Records Office too as they have a good number of resords pertaining to Sunderland
Wright, Hipkin, Howard, Lyon
Durham, Sunderland, Norfolk, Wigan
