stockton on tees

My father was born in Stockton on Tees in 1918, the address on his birth certificate is Headlam Street, in the Parish of St. James  Municipal Ward of Tilery.
He would of been baptised in the local Roman Catholic Church. My question is could anyone let me know where exactly Headlam Street is or indeed if it still exists? and the name of the nearest Catholic Church and school .

Until anyone more local catches up with this post, I can telll you that there is a Headlam Rd and a Headlam Court in the Tilery district of Stockton, but this area has been redeveloped in recent years.

It looks as though the nearest RC church now, is St Mary's, Major Street (details from the RC diocese of Hexham and Newcastle) though whether it was in 1918 is another matter.

Thank you Ruthie for your reply to my post, I shall certainly check out the church you mentioned to see if  I have any luck. I wonder if it was a misprint on his certificate in regards to Headlam Street?  anyway I shall keep looking.  I am trying to find out when exactly my father and his family left Stockton and arrived in Jarrow, Co Durham.

I am having no luck in tracing the beginning of my family in Ireland so I though I would try a different track and start tracing my fathers childhood in Stockton and Jarrow.

I would think Headlam Street is right and that perhaps Headlam Court was a new development on or near the original.

Perhaps someone from Stockton could let us know? Myself, I'm looking for an Albert Place where apparently my gggrandfather had a newsagents. Lon gone I suspect

St James Church was in Portrack Lane and it was demolished  around the 1960s. The cross that was hanging from the roof is now in Wolsingham Catholic Church. The church now used for that area is St Mary's RC in Stockton.Headlam st  was just north of St James church in Tiler.

Hello Ruthie. I was born in Thornaby in 1937(sometimes called South Stockton) but lived in Norton for twenty five years before moving away.

I'm related to the Russells of John Russell and Sons grocers who had a cash and carry warehouse on Portrack Lane  (sadly no more)but  their business started in Thornaby - Caledonia Street. I think that's long gone too. I'm in Wales now and trying to do research 'long distance'
