Hello Malshie, If you send me all the details of your family I will go to the Archives and have a look, if your family where not catholic, they most certainly would have been christened at St.James.
My daughter is going into hospital tomorrow to have her second baby, so all being well I should get to the archives next week.

Hi Sheila

Thank you that is a very kind offer to visit the archives for me. I live down South so have only visited Stockton once on my travels to Newcastle.

The details are

Joseph R larkin born 22nd February 1918
Theresa larkin born 16 December 1915
Margaret Larkin born 7 October 1913

The family are roman catholic.

Sadly all deceased.

The only address I have is 68 Headlam Street
Weather this was their only address I really have no idea.

How lovely that you are about to become a Grandma hope it all goes well.
Thank you again but please there is no rush I expect you shall be rather busy very shortly.

regards
malshie

Hi Malshie, managed to get an hour at Teesside Archives today, found the following; St.Marys R.C.Church Stockton on Tees;
Baptism; Joseph Redmond Larkin born 22/2/1918 baptised 10/4/1918 father Patrick Larkin mother Frances Larkin(nee Browne) Address 68 Headlam Street,
Godmother Maria Betts
Next to the baptism it says 17th Jan 1926  Ipse confirmatus in ecclest St.Bedow apud Jarrow. I could'nt find out what this meant, I wonder if it was his Holy Communion? Maybe someone on Rootschat can translate it.
I will be going back next week, so will have a look for the girls

Hello Sheila

Congratulations on the birth of  your Granddaughter how lovely you must be so pleased hope your daughter is well.

Thank you so very much it is really kind of you to take the trouble to look up information. (I know from experience it is not always as easy as it sounds to do look ups).
Yes that is my dad and his parents. 17th January yes could be his communion date that would be about right as normally around the age of seven/eight when you make it.
Looks like they could of returned to Jarrow St Bedes Church to do it, wonder why?
That is a good idea to ask on rootschat for a translation.
It is good to know he was baptised at St Mary's, as I took a lovely picture of the church when we visited Stockton early last year.

Again that would be so kind if you could find out about his sisters. just to see if they were back in Jarrow and note the name of their sponsor.

Thanks again
Kindest regards
malshie

Hello Sheila and Malshie

I think the Latin can be translated as "He himself has been confirmed in the church of Jarrow with St.Bedow". Does this make any sense?

Sheila, if you are doing another trip to the archives and it is not too much to ask,  would you kindly look up a marriage which took place in St Mary's Church between Margaret Nicholas and James McGill between 1891 and 1895?
These are my great grandparents. I cannot find any GRO indexes, they must have been mislaid in the transcriptions but I am sure they were married at St Mary's. They were single in the 1891 census and my grandmother was born in 1895; I suspect the marriage took place in 1891-1894.

It would be really helpful as I have been trying to locate this marriage for ten years and I have almost given up.almost.

Thank you.

Hi Malshie, have been to the archives today, found a christening  for Teresa Larkin born 16/12/1915 christened 26th Dec 1915, Godmother Margaret Brown, it states next to her name sames as Josephs, 17th Jan 1926 Ipse confitmatas est ecclest St. Bedow apud Jarrow, did not find a christening for Margaret Larkin. Just as a matter of interest I noted a christening for Maria Betts born 21/6/1915 christened 11/7/1915 of 66 headlam Street mother Maria Betts(godmother of Joseph) Godparents were James Larkin and Julia Larkin(just thought they may be related to you.
Also looked at some documents for the school I mentioned ,Carlisle Memorial,
It opened 1900 and closed 1958. They do have books with names of children, when they started the school and when they left, they went on to St.Mary's when they were 7 or 8. Will go back tomorrow and have a browse through them, I may find your family.
