Olleyke,
That's really nice to think of someone strolling to the churchyard to look at some long-forgotten headstone!  But I reckon that's just about the right one for the Robert DUFFIELD, baptised in 1788.  I'd love a photo of it, if it's not too much trouble, and I'll PM you with my e-mail address to send it to.
I  still have the photo of myself with the class I inflicted myself on in April/May 1970 for 2 brief weeks - I think it was a class of 8-9 year-olds, and their class teacher was a Mr Burt.  I wonder whether any of your family went through that school at that time.
About 6 years ago I visited Taverham again and was amazed by how much it had grown since then - it's almost a small dormitory town for Norwich now...
regards, keith

I'm more than happy to get a photo of it for you. Ill take another trip down there when the weather is better  :)

Both my mum and uncle were born 1962, in Taverham and went to the Taverham Primary. My uncles been delivering milk around Taverham since around 1975 and said Taverham has changed massively over the years.

Olleyke,
Now, wouldn't that be just extraordinary if either your mother or uncle were in that class I took - or recognise people they were at school with then.  I'll PM you this afternoon, and shall make a scan of that 1970 photo to see whether either of them recognise anyone it...

Hi again, Yokel,
Entry 27a, Robert Duffield buried 19th January 1851, aged 61.  Perhaps he would have reached 62 if he'd lived a bit longer into 1851, so a birth date of 1789 is pretty close to a 1788 baptism.
I'd better look in the 1841 Census of Taverham for him, though there's never much detail on there, it all depends on the enumerator..
Thanks very much for spotting that for me,
keith

Hi Keith,

I know this thread is what, 18 years old now, but I've just started researching my paternal side again and Francis Duffield and Susanna Bales are my 6th great grandparents! I haven't researched them both much yet, so I'm going to sit and read through these replies. I'm not very confident researching pre-census ancestors as I always worry I may go wrong.

Also, I have to apologise incase I didn't reply to your e-mail regarding the class photograph you e-mailed me. Neither my uncle or mum are in that class photo, but my uncle, Glenn Bushell who passed away in 1980 is. He is the third child on the back row from the right. I wish I had the chance to meet him. I will show my mum and uncle the photograph and get back to you on whether they recognise any other faces.

Hi again, Kirsty, and does it really matter if another dozen or so years have flown by and we're all that much older now😀!
But reading between the lines, that sounds like a tragically early death in the family of your uncle Glenn in 1980, with my Maths informing me that he would only have been 18 or 19 years old then...
Haven't looked at my DUFFIELD family branch for a while, but will revisit it now to refresh my memory...

That's very true!

Unfortunately Glenn was involved in a motorbike accident in February 1980, he was 19. He left a massive hole in the family but my mum and uncle often talk about him.

I've got Francis and Susannah as the parents of my 5th great grandfather, John, and baptised in Great Melton 21 June 1778, but I'm not 100% sure where I got that baptism from  ??? I will need to double check that!

The 1778 marriage was by licence.
The bond and allegation are on FamilySearch (free, but need to be registered and logged in)
Francis a Husbandman. Both parties single, age 21 years and upwards.
Bond here, allegation next image (the images are not great!)

Second bondsman was Edward Roberts, a Blacksmith
FreeReg has an Edward Robbarts as one of the marriage witnesses.

Another Duffield, Mary, of Great Melton, in the bonds/allegations shortly after
