Tudor family in Newbridge
« on: Tuesday 03 January 06 10:44 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me?  My great-grandmother was born Mary Tudor in Newbridge c1830.  The only marriage I can find is a William Pierce who was living in Broncoed at that time, father John Pierce a labourer.  Mary's father was a John Tudor, smith - could be blacksmith.  Mary was at that time living in Leeswood.  The marriage took place in March, 1850 at Mold Parish Church.  The witnesses being the vicar's wife and a male.

The story handed down in the family is that Mary married beneath which would explain why the marriage took place in Mold.  I am really struggling to find these people, the only other information I have is that  a daughter Mary Ann was born in Barrow-in-Furness c1862. Their son  William was born in Southsea, Wrexham c 1866 and my grandmother Sarah Pierce was born in 1870 also in Southsea, Wrexham.

They next appear in Madeley, Staffs in the 1881 Census.  The next information I have is that Sarah married James Ince in Bolton, Lancashire in 1892.

I feel that having married in 1850 my g-g-parents would possibly have had more children.

Someone did offer to look up parish record for Newbridge for me if I could find a marriage.  Could this person contact me please?  Otherwise if there is anyone who can place any of this information within the family I would be very pleased to hear from them.

Hi Christie

I may have some info but there are quite a lot of differences to that supplied as well as similarities.

1861 living in Dalton, Lancs
William Pierce     27   Railway lab  b. Chester
Mary                   25                       b. Wales
John                     9                            do
Jane                     7                             do
Mary A                  5                            do

1871 living in Pontybodkin, Hope
Willam                 40   Collier          b. Cheshire
Mary                    40                           Leeswood
John                    20                           Hope
Mary Ann             10                               do
William                  8                               do
Sarah Ann               5 mos                      do

Although Southsea and Hope are near to Wrexham they are a few miles from each other.
Newbridge is a long way from Leeswood. Where did you obtain that information?
Also Mary Ann appears to have been born in Hope - what info have you on Barrow?
I have an interest in Tudors in the Hope/Tryddyn area which is by Leeswood and in fact there is a John born 1809 married to an Eliza who were my gggp. The earlist child I have recorded is Joseph in 1833 and I do not have their marriage so Mary could (?) be an earlier daughter although there are other families. I have not yet found them in the 1841 census and it could be that they were living in the part of the census that is missing.

Let me know whether this may tie in with your records.
