Lovett/McQueen Battersea
« on: Tuesday 03 January 06 02:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi all - heres to hoping I have placed this query in the correct section! (I am not from Uk so Im unfamiliar with counties etc but Im learnin!)

My query is for any information on William Henry Richard Lovett and his wife May Madeline Lovett nee McQueen. I have a birth certificate for their son Henry George Lovett born 1911 which states William was an Omnibus Driver and they  resided at 44 Henley St Battersea. I would like to find out if I could anything on William and May if they had any other children (believe there was an Edward Charles son) and William and Mays siblings and parents if the information is available.

Thanking you all in advance

Kylee

Hello Kylee,
I am quite new to the family research too.
In the U.K. our census records are only published after 100 years and so there would not be a census recording the family for your persons birth in 1911.
You could try looking in the last published census for 1901 for the parents if they were either single or married and maybe trace their families back.
We have a Family Records Centre in London that records most births/marriages/deaths from around 1837 to the present day. Obviously you could not come there to search for free.  There are some websites that you can subscribe to that will give you the index of an event and then the only way forward is to order the relevant certificates for these events.
There are electoral rolls for the more up to date stuff in the relevant areas where your family lived, but as yet I haven't quite learned how to use them.
I am sorry I can not be of any help in your quest, but hopefully would have quided you to what is available.  Perhaphs someone with a little more knowledge than myself can guide you further.
Brenda

Hello, Kylee,

I am very annoyed with myself, I had a long post ready for you with info on you William Henry Lovett & May Madeline McQueen, census years 1891 & 1901 & briths & marriages.
I pushed the wong button & lost the lot, I haven't recovered from Christmas & New Year yet, so bear with me, I will retype it & make sure this time I will not do the same again.

By the way, bjo,
electrol rolls for Greater London are available at the London Metropolitan Archives,  if you have the name of the street & disrict, there are index books to check for the rolls to order from the Archives, fill in a form, these are collected about every ½ hour, sent down to the Archives when the books are ready for you that are in the Reading Room adjoning the Search room.

I could find no Civil Registration birth entry for May Madeline McQueen but there was one for
Emmie May B. McQueen
Mar ¼  1891  Wandsworth  1d  585
(I would think these are the same person, a mixup of names somewhere)

I hope this is clear & not too confusing,  if you wish to find siblings for Henry George Lovett, born 1911 Battersea, it would mean searcihng the pay to view site

www.1837online.com

& look thro' the surname Lovett for the mother's name McQueen shown alongside as after this date mother's names were shown.

I would suggest that getting the marriage cert for William Henry Lovett & May Madeline McQueen, Dec ¼1906 as this would give you their father's names & would confirm or not the info I have given you.

This can be purchased online.  price £7,  from
www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0

Any problems get back to me.

Have fun    ;D
