Hello again!

If you get really stuck with your translations, feel free to post the text here & we (royal we LOL!!) can have a go. Or post the photo on the Common Room board.

Alternatively, this site comes in quite handy in addition to the one you are already using!

Now we are in suspense, so don't forget to let us know!  :)

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hello Arranroots,
I feel like I've hit the jackpot! My mums cousin has sent her various birth certificates including Catharine Williams. And she also has the family bible with other dates.Jenkin was apparently a farm servant so this might fit with the second lot of details on the 1881 census.I'm shooting over to my mothers now as the suspense is killing me!!I'll post more later and let you have a laugh at my welsh translation!!
Regards
AmandaMelanie

Hello again - I won't be laughing!  Rootschatters know that my Welsh is limited to asking where my crisps are and saying I like coffee - not helpful for gravestones!!

But I know a man who does...

 ;D

Really good news!  Talk again later??

;)

Hello again,
Firstly the dates
Catharine Williams 26/9/1851    5/9/1926
Rhydfydyr,Lledrod
mother  Dorothy(Formerly Williams)
father    John Williams

Catharine married Jenkin Davies (13/8/1858    25/12/1917) on 10/3/1882

Children
John W   19/6 /1882    23/7/1916   married  16/6/1912
Mary        17/8/1885    26/7/1950   married   20/5/1915 This date of death is wrong as she died before my sister was born which would make it either August or September 1948
Dorothy   20/2/1890    18/7/1913
Martha     18/2/1893    26/4/1957   married   11/8/1922
On Marthas birth certificate it states that Jenkin was a farm servant. The house (Hen)Bont Fach is quite a big house for a farm servant to own. Is it possible this comes under the farmer John Rowlands? It is situated on the outskirts of the village. Is this Tyndolau or is this the name of another house? Is it possible to obtain old maps of the village?
Sorry ,too many questions but my head is just buzzing!
Thanks  Amanda Melanie
ps I'll leave the Welsh for now as that is my grandfathers side of the family and I'll get confused!!!

But they aren't!

Still looking!

OK I have found Catherine + daughters in 1901 - not widowed, as I thought!

Here they are

RG13/5158/43/6

DAVIES Cathrine H M 49 - Lledrod
Dorothy dau 11 - Gwynfil
Martha dau 8 - ditto

Address: 5 Meidrim Rd, Gwynfil, Cardiganshire

Could be they moved about into "tied accomodation" according to Jenkin's work.

Will go back to 1891, but it didn't look promising!

Many thanks,
Are Gwynfil and Tyndolau places/villages or house names? I know the family moved at somepoint into the village of Llangeitho into Brynawel but for some reason Catharines funeral procession left from Bont Fach. My mother can remember a tall hedge and roses around the door. Brynawel is mid terrace. Mary could possibly have left at 16yrs to go into service. I shall check this out.
Thanks again
Amanda Melanie
