Hello Mary, Love the Mona Lisa...
I was really after some background more than anything and the names of the inhabitants can help. The sort of information such as the number of servants, their names, ages and what their job was. I could compare it to the 1881 (and 1891 censuses - why did I just think of that!) and get an idea of who was there for life, who was not, did they move up "the ladder", if they married one another, etc. If you want to let me have them (with all due regard to the fact there may be a largish number of names), I would appreciate it.
My grandad worked at Coleorton Hall around 1910 before going off to WW1. (He ironed the newspapers and looked after the dog) I have a series of photos from his album of this era and I was asked to write an article which is why I wanted more info around this time period. The original "Lords of the Manor" the Beaumonts still owned the place in 1881 as I was able to access the mormons index and there was William Beaumont. However, by the time Grandad landed his job the family that featured in his album was the Abel Smith's. (At least Mrs Frances Abel Smith, no mention of a Mr AS in a wedding announcement of the daughter) As you have pointed out, there seems to have been an intervening family also.
1911 isnt avaliable for a few more years. Its a shame as I may have been able to identify a few of the unidentified people in his album if 1911 was available. There's one shot of a a man who looks like the butler but no name unfortunately as well as various others.
I have searched the internet but the main information is about the conversion of Coleorton Hall into apartments, not much history although what there is was interesting - Wordsworth et al. I thought I would try Rootschat as there didnt seem a Local History board where I could post a general enquiry about the Hall. If you would like to suggest another avenue for me please do so and thanks for your reply.
Regards
Dave
