Sorry, but I was only in Horsham for 3 days during which time I surveyed, mapped and transcribed the stones that were to be moved for the new 2 million pound extension to St Mary,s Church.

I only phtograped the stones that were in danger of being lost

That's Ok. I have checked them against my trees and at the moment I have sadly found no matches with my ancestors. However I will keep hold of the info in case it comes in handy.

Sorry for the delay but its such a long time since i had a request, (2 years) I had to find the printed document within my files - its not been computerised yet.

Schedule of Memorials
No 869 & 870
HORTON - Jane, wife of Thomas - 1st March 1849 - aged 35 years.
                Thomas - 1st February 1859 - aged 44 years and
                William, son - 9th Augut 1905 - aged 65 years

That is exactly what I was hoping to see!  It certainly helps to nail down Thomas and Jane as William's parents, that I was so iffy about.

Attached to this should be part of the plan of the stones in St Mary Horsham.
As you can see, stones no 869 & 870 are at the bottom near to the entrance and footpath that goes through the church yard

Thanks for that, Chris; much appreciated. I'm in Canada, so very little hope of ever seeing the cemetery, so something visual is great!

Thomas and Jane had four children that only survived a week or so after birth: Henry in 1844/5, Sarah in 1847, James in 1851, and Robert in 1849 (assumably his birth was Jane's demise). 
Do you know offhand if infants were buried without headstones back then?

Yes, very much so, but it often said something like "and 3 infant children" no names or ages were usually given - you would have to go through the burial Register to find them.

The inscriptions I gave you were done in 1952 and only included very basic information, (done by the council workmen) so there could be reference to the children on the stone.

Maybe someone in Horsham will go and have a look for you
