I too am looking for info on the Leonard family - My only informaion is going back to Martin leonard B 1833 approx in Roscommon although some census list this as galway. I believe his father to be Michael Leonard but thats as far as I can go. I do have a possible link to a Henry Leonard living 2 doors away in 1861 in Bilston, Wolverhampton but do not know if they are related - possibly brothers. If you have any ideas or can help please let me know.

Hi - I am also looking for Farrell in Roscommon.  Namely Anne(or any variation of) who married a Michael Harlow.  I think she was born around 1846 and believe her mother was Bridget Houston, father Michael.  The family (not Anne as far as I can see) seem to have moved to Edinburgh at some point where a lot of Anne's siblings were born.  I don't suppose you are looking for the same Farrell?

I have traced my g-g-grandfather to a Martin Leonard, born in Roscommon c1839, married a Mary and moved to Wolverhampton, where they had my g-grandfather William.  There is confusion because the 1871 census calls him Marlin and some people on ancestry.co.uk refer to him as Martinus. No idea why !

Welcome to Rootschat. Are ou looking at the actual 1871 census image or a transcription (if the latter then Martin has probably just been transcribed due to bad handwriting or carelessness). Martinus is probably used as Latin for of Martin and perhaps the people who submitted the Ancestry trees have found a church record (Roman Catholic most likely) with his name recorded that way.
