Seeking information on descendants
« on: Saturday 31 December 05 16:50 GMT (UK) »
I have just recently been informed that a brother of my paternal grandfather emigrated to the USA, I knew I had relatives there, but not their surname or where they where, during the 1930s my parents were receiving correspondence and newspapers from America, we children were given the comic sections of the newspapers, however, after my father`s death in 1941, the correspondence ceased, and I now realise they must have been related to my father, sadly my mother had "cut us off" all relations on my father`s side, and I am now trying to find them.
I also have a photo of a man in a baseball outfit, marked "Alex the 2nd Yankee" and also a mother & daughter, marked Mary & Jean, its possible they are linked to this family, their clothes are in the style of the 30s.
Their names were
Cameron Barr, wife Ann (Mitchell Sutherland)
they had up to 1930 sons Cameron and John aged 9 and 3, and also a daughter Ann age 15
They lived at  Ormes Street, Philadelphia, and Cameron Snr worked as a machinist in the iron foundry. Hed died in 1987

I would love  to make contact with any descendants. and would welcome any information that could lead me to them, my grandfather was James Barr, born in Greenock, Scotland, and my father was also James Barr, he lived at Dalmuir in Scotland, his wife was Laura Maud Gagan.

Have you tried searching on GenesReunited?  There may be descendants on there....?

There are 2 Cameron Barr's, born Greenock in 1885 and 1902, they are from a lady called Maud.

There are lots of James Barr's, 7 in Greenock, I can't find any Laura Maud Gagen's though.

Best of Luck
Happy New Year

Hi
Thanks you all you lovely people for the information you have just sent re the Barr family.
Sorry, I have overslept today,m did not awaken until after 11am and I`m all topsy turvey at present, all my usual routine has gone out of the window, so I will get back to you asap, once I am fully awake and ready to go!
I hate being all behind with my day, the fault of trying to sort out all my papers and filing yesterday and late evening, no wonder I had overslept!!

Hi Allegs
Thanks for your suggestion, Iam already a member of Gnes R. and the entry for the two Cameron Barrs, that you refer to, may be mine, I have my tree on there (the old one) and at present marking in the new one.
So far I have not managed to contact any relatives on there, although have found some very distant rellies connected through marriage, but none so far connected to my main family. Laura Maud Gagan, was my mother and is included on my tree, her father`s surname was originally Geoghan but was changed when he and his sisters were sent to Canada from the workhouse in Stoke on Trent. I have been reunited with my twin cousins here, last seen in 1939, but that was not achieved through Genes, I had searched for them through Lost Touch on Channel 4 TV to learn that they had also been searching for years to find me, they had not known my married name and so were unsuccessful, they had met my mother in the 70s and she had not told them where I was or my surname, even though she knew full well and had stayed with me at my address which was at that time in London, she had not wished the family to be together, but she wanted to be at the centre and have all knowledge!. Knowledge which I am now painfully trying hard to find, I must admit I am having some success through Roots chat,.. for which I am truly grateful.

Hi catherinefine.
Thank you also for your comments, the information from the 130 census has been given to me through Rootschat, and any additional information that comes in, I am very v ery grateful for, I am not very experienced as yet on the computer in accessing the various census info for USA or Canada, and the help of Rootschatters is very much appreciated.

Hi Jonoco
Thank you very much for the additional information you have given me re Cameron Barr Jr, very much appreciated, and I will now add this to my notes (which thanks to all you kind and lovely people, is now growing)
and I have high hopes now of finally being able to make contact with descendants, I have so much to thank you all for.
When I finally do make contact, it will "make my day" I a looking forward so much to solving some of my mysteries in this New Year, and it will be thanks to you all. Bless you
