I missed this Crawforth with the LAING  family in 1881...had counted amount in family but Hannah (CrawQforth) had been miss-spelled...
different religion and origin listed, but could be the census taker just kept
going with his dittos.....Paris Town, Brant North, Ontario

Hi Lin,

To add to your collection, a Mark Crawforth, son of Lydia Crawforth of Whitby, served in the Canadian Forces in WWI.  You can see his attestation (enlistment) papers by searching for him here: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/020106_e.html

Once you find the page with his record on it you will see a link saying "how to consult or order copies of these records".  This will tell you how you can order photocopies of his entire service file - it's quite a reasonable price and well worth it.  The attestation papers are just a small part of what's in the file.  The entire file also contains the soldier's medical records, all of their movements (where they were posted), dates of sailing to England for overseas service, records of medals or disciplinary actions, and sometimes if they received a pension there are records showing later addresses where the cheques were sent etc...  You will get all this if you order the copies, but you can only see the attestation papers on-line.

Mark Salisbury Crawforth, beloved husband of the late Eva M. Shibley. Dear father of Mrs. C. Pascoe (Margaret) and J. G. of R.R.1 Whitby. Dear brother of Mrs. A. R. Johnston (Alma) Grimsby, Mrs. C. S. Buck (Beatrice), London, and Mrs. H. M. Gulley (Sarah) of Toronto, in his 75th year. Resting at the W. C. Town Funeral Chapel, Whitby. For service in the chapel on Teusday, November 2nd at 2 p.m. Interment Union Cemetery, Oshawa. Minister the Rev. F. J. Reed.

There is a street  named  Crawforth in Whitby...I imagine might have been named after your family!!!!  That's a fun find....J.J.

Wow!!  Sorry I haven't been around for literally months.  thank you so much everyone for all the work you have done I really do appreciate all you have done and am working my way through it.

You're all fantastic, flowers, raised glasses etc.

As an update I have now managed to be in conntact with a descendant of Matthew Crawforth and we have actually met up.  There was some familiar likeness and also in family photos

Yes it was really exciting .  We looked at photo's of each others ancestors and so likenesses some spookily so.  We found a couple in ourselves too.

Joshua born 1797 is my line.  My branch stayed in the Uk but it was so great to help my Canadian relative with all the info I got here.

Sorry to be so long replying, my computer blocked this page for literally months and I couldn't get in.

Having now had it sorted am able to get back in.
