WILLIAM GODLEY
« on: Friday 30 December 05 18:37 GMT (UK) »
WILLIAM GODLEY b.abt. 1849 Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire, married to HARRIETT HIBBERT b.abt. 1845 Bakewell, Derbys. I have info from 1881 census but I am trying to find out if there is a link to the Godley families in Whitwell, Derbys., as there is a bit of confusion with regard to the parents of my husbands grandma LOUISA GODLEY b.abt. 1878. This confusion came about as it says on Louisa's mar. cert. father Stephen (deceased) but on the only b.cert we can find, for Louisa, it says William Stephen. On the 1881 census the only Louisa that fits has a father called William born Farnsfield, Notts not Whitwell, Derbys!!!

Any info much appreciated,

What information do you have on Louisa? eg her marriage, date of marriage, place of birth etc.

Post all you have and I am sure we will crack this one for you!

Looking at the 1901 census and presuming that Louisa married prior to that date, then Stephen Godley born in Whitwell was still alive.
And I cannot seem to find William Godley born Farnsfield.

William GODLEY b Farnsfield 1848 married Harriett HIBBERT June qtr 1867 Sheffield. William was the son of David GODLEY & Ann HAYES. David was the son of William GODLEY & Elizabeth BAINS. Harriett was the daughter of Thomas HIBBERT & Elizabeth WHEELDON. Now it gets interesting! Thomas died and Elizabeth married Charles GODLEY who was David's younger brother. This means that Harriett was the step daughter of William's uncle. I know quite a bit about this line as my wife is a descendant of Charles mentioned above. I am as sure as one can be that they have no connection with the Whitwell lot.
