Caves - Wolverton or Stony Stratford-brickwall
« on: Thursday 29 December 05 23:01 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with this one please?

Frances Caves spinster of full age married James Higgs 4 June 1838.  Her father was William Caves labourer on the marriage certificate.  Witnesses John Garner (who is related to the Higgs side) and Richard Pea?? (last two letters unreadable).

The various censuses show Frances as having been born between 1807 and 1813 in either Wolverton or Stony Stratford.

Can anyone find any evidence of the Caves please.

David

I have traced the Higgs side back another two hundred years but I can find no trace of the Caves family

Hi David,

Have you tried the Buckinghamshire FHS? They do searches at very reasonable prices. I am about to send to them again myself on a new line that has popped up!

Kind Regards,

Frances :)

Hi David.

 Caves pop up in the Milton Keynes area in the 1700's I have some dates but not around Frances birth years. Will have a dig around at CMK and see what I can find.- ( Haven't forgotton Thomas Gt Linford 1796)- been to busy to get parked.

I contacted Bucks FHS some years ago, when I was at that time a member.  All they came up with was confirmation of the marriage in Loughton and the fact that it was by banns with both parties otp.

Hi David.

 Just found  a Caves marriage of right period could be her brother...

   Moulsoe 28 Jan 1833  Benjamin Caves m Jane Griggs.

 On all of the census date of birth changes for Frances.

   1851 =1809 Stony Stratford
   1861 =1819
   1871 = 1810 Wolverton so will check PR's for these a soon as I get to CMK.

Thanks Tazzie,

The 1841 census gives her as 30 i.e. 1811 to 16 and 1861 as 1813 according to my records and so it is not quite as bad as I thought.  In 1881 James was a widower.

I think Wolverton is probably the correct birth place because before the railway town was constructed it was very small and easily regarded as an adjunct to Stony Stratford which was only a mile or so away.

This one has been bugging me for about 15 years.  The only place I haven't looked at myself is the Wolverton parish records although this should have been done for me without success.  The only other possibility of a lead is her father being in Loughton in 1841.  I couldn't find him elsewhere, but I was using original films which send you blind after a while.

Hi David,

  I think all of the records are on film in CMK. As soon as we return to normal(whatever that is ) I will head to the library. Milton Keynes has been full of mad shoppers since November and I have sorted all my lookups ready to go I have added this to my list and will check it out for you along with the Gt Linford one I promised.

   Have a Happy New Year :) :) :)
 Will be back soon

Thank you Sue.

William and Deborah look probably to  be too old to be Frances' parents and so I need to look outside Wolverton for that marriage
