Soldiers killed/missing in action 1907-14

I'm clutching at straws here, but wondering if there are any records for soldiers killed/missing in action in Boer or Great Wars.  I'm still trying to find a record of death for my Gt.Granda, JOHN FRANCIS MADDEN (b.1867 Cork). last known address 1901 Spruce St. Belfast.  This is becoming very frustrating - any ideas or help most welcome.

What else can you tell us about Grandda? do you know any dates - regiments - have you found him anywhere? do you know anything at all about him?

I'm more than happy to help you look - but there were thousands and thousands of men in both wars and we really need a bit more than a name!!

By the way - there is a medal card for a JF Madden - but with a Canadian Regiment - any chance it could have been your Grandda? - we could maybe track him and see where he leads!!

Regarding Liverpool Annie's suggestion about the Canadian Regiments, I'm sure the latest edition of one of the popular family history magazines there is a whole article about there being a large number of emigrants to Canada who joined up and fought with the Canadian army.  Maybe your Grandda was one such volunteer.  Do you know if he went to Canada?

Thanks Jan & Annie for your replies, I'll follow the leads.
The details I have on my gt.granda are:
John Francis MADDEN born Cork - son of Owen MADDEN (constable in RIC until about 1898) & Mary RING.  He married Ida Rebecca BEATTIE in May 1898 - his address was Divis St. In the 1901 census he had 1 child (Helena) & lived in Nile St.  My Granny was born in 1903 at which time they lived in Spruce St.  His last child was born in 1908 (but died 1910 & was buried by his mother, so I assume his dad JFMadden was not around).  His wife remarried in 1914.  That's all the info I have, my mum remembers being told that he died in the war, but doesn't know anything at all. I'm guessing he would have been a reserve, so possibly called up to the Royal Irish (rifles or fusiliers).
I'll have a look at the links you suggested, and any other pointers you can offer would be welcome.

Hi Jo My G.Father was killed in action 1914 he was with the Royal Irish Rifles (got this info from cwgc.org.) he was buried in France Le Touret Memorial and their was a John Madden also killed the same day 27/10/1914 who was also with the Royal Irish Rifles his service no. 7902, also a John Madden Royal Irish Fusiliers service no. 9243, maybe one of is your G.G.F then you can get his war details on www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/militaryhistory.

That is really interesting about John Madden -
I checked the medal cards with the numbers and one had a different name! -
I'm wondering if he changed his name - ( many men did that for a variety of reasons !) - thats why its been hard to track him down !! - I hope the other Jo sees this - maybe she'll recognise the name !
