Yorkshire - RUEBEN WASS
« on: Sunday 25 December 05 02:01 GMT (UK) »
Trying to obtain information on my step-grandfather Rueben Wass, b. about 1880 in Yorkshire (I think). He had a sister Sally (Sarah?) who remained a spinster dying in Leeds. Rueben died in Leeds about 1960.  He resided for many years in Stratford Street, Leeds but I have no further information on him.
He married my grandmother Mabel Clara Yates nee Stembridge who was a widow.
Yates in Surrey; Wass in Yorkshire; Faulds/Wallace/Thomson/Calderwood/Dalziel/Barbour in Ayrshire and Renfrewshire; Brooks/Stirling in Stirlingshire; McKay in Fife; Anderson/Russell in Renfrewshire.

Hi There, ;D
I hope this is the sort of information you wanted. Rueben doesn't appear on the index for the 1901 census - but I think he is with Sarah.

The image is extremely difficult to read. According to the index Sarah has a bother living with her named, Lydia J Wass, aged 47,   ::) born Burgwallis. I think it should be Rueben T Wass aged 19.

1901 Census  Hunslet

62 Linden Road

Sarah Wass, head, un, 30, Living on own means, Burghwallis
? Wass, brother, 19, Can't read occupation, Burghwallis

Darcy, you're a hero! Thanks for your help. Perhaps now I can begin to trace the Wass line back. My step-grandfather was a quiet and reserved man. Goodness knows how he met my grandmother who was from the south of England and went to work in munitions during WW1. She had been widowed at an early age when my father was but 3 yrs. old.

Hi Day,

I'm pleased that I could help you with the research for your step-grandfather.

Do you know what his occupation was? I might be able to read it on the 1901 if I have a bit of a hint.  ;D
