            Any information would be great.

Hi Dexter

The marriage wasn't in Padstow  ;)

Baptisms Padstow Parents listed as John and Jenny

Richard 14 Sep 1823 Father Labourer of Padstow
John 23 Oct 1825 Father Labourer of Padstow
Mary Jane 21 Apr 1829 Father Labourer of Padstow
William 1 Jan 1832 Father Labourer of Padstow

Baptisms Padstow Parents listed as John and Jane

Anna Maria 28 Mar 1837 Father Labourer of Padstow
Emma 22 Sep 1839 Father Labourer of Padstow

I can't see a burial for Jane nor can I see burials for the two oldest sons and surely they died as there were other sons born with the same names  :-\

Cheers Kris  :)

Just to follow up:
I had baptism dates for the first 4 children of John & Jane, but thanks for the others Kris.
I have a marriage for William(1 Jan 1832) in 1849 at St Columb-Cornwall, spouse unknown, can either of you help with this?
Have still been unable to find a marriage for Mary Jane & William Dexter, though their firstborn was in Plymouth, Devon.
regards to you both,
Cedric.

As to Mary Jane and William Dexter. Looks like he died aged 56 in Jun 1872 Portsea 2b 251. Now with the first Child Mary Henwood Dexter born in Plymouth Dec 1/4 1864 5b 260 that mean you do not have a lot of years to search for the marriage which is quite handy. I see it is not listed on FreeBMD.  You can search the entire GRO BMD images free of charge at ancestry, be sure to check right up to Williams death as the marriage may have taken place late.

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

Select Complete BMD Index ranges & Images 1837-1983 and search for a marriage quarter by quarter

Another thought....Looks like they were not together long, perhaps they planned to wed one day but never actually got around to it. William and Mary Jane moved to Portsea so realistically noone would have known if a marriage never took place. There appears to be a bit of a history of children born out of marriage in the family. Looks Like Mary Janes father may be suspect as illegitimate also with his alias Greene.

Good Luck.......Kris  :)

Thanks Kris,
I did have death of William DEXTER, I already searched through ancestry for the marriage but as you surmise, they probably didn't bother...
Thanks for the tentative Hariot COCK, will do some more searching & get back to you,
Regards,
Cedric.

Hi

I am currently researching my Henwood family and may have linked into this same family your talking about.  if my research is correct William Henwood is my 4x great grandfather.  I have hopefully correctly traced through the censuses to John G Henwood.

From what i have found William Henwood had a son William, with his wife Harriet around 1850. (census 1861 that has been quoted here) The reason i am doubting my research is because i think i may have found William (the son of William)  at his brother in laws house in 1871, just don't know the link to the in-law, does the name Blythe make sense to you? William (junior) may have met his wife there as that is where she is born, Derby. Her name (if i'm correct) is Elizabeth. I know i am correct in my 1901, 1891 and 1881 censuses!

Hopefully this makes sense to you because then maybe my research hasn't gone in the wrong direction!

Thanks, Cat
