As of 1st June 2006, I have discontinued my Calderdale Companion website.

The number of hits has declined over the past few week, and the feedback - which went a long way to motivate me - has also declined.

Regards, and thanks to those who did respond and/or contribute to the material on the site.

To respond to everyone who subsequently sent me Personal Messages and emails, I should say that of all those people who wrote saying how much they used the site and how much they miss the site, only a very few actually ever took the time and the trouble to correct a date of birth here, or to add an interesting fact there.  There's only so much that I can do on my own!

There's quite a kerfuffle about Malcolm's website raging on the Calderdale Family History Society's message board.  It seems that many people would like his Calderdale Companion to come back.  Let's hope he reconsiders.

Dolly, thanks for your concern.  An email acquaintance who is a member of Calderdale FHS told me about this.  When I approached CFHS asking to be allowed to see the discussion and given the right to respond, I was not only told that I could not see the stuff [because I wasn't a member] but I also learned that CFHS and Halifax Antiquarian Society had been considering [or should that be condescending] whether to take over the website ... and all this without even asking or mentioning it to me.  It all stinks of petty politics.

Best wishes
