Irish in the Spanish Civil War
« on: Saturday 17 December 05 14:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello There Christopher
I have been looking at the sites you both mentioned but as i have no real knowledge of my fathers service in Spain, I think I may have to give up so to speak. I don't even know how long he was out there. The only comment I ever heard him make was that bullfighting was a very cruel sport.
I'm not sure if you meant that I had put my email address on my post, I hope not but if I did I will try to make sure it doesn't happen again. As you can probably tell, I'm new to this lark & very unsure of procedures.
Many thanks.

Megabugs,

We might be able to trace a bit of information if we knew your father's name.
I assume you are interested in finding your Irish ancestors as well as details about your father.

All the Best, Chris

Thanks Chris and Merry Christmas to you and to Megabugs.

And well said Chris! We should all be proud of our Irish heritage and put aside the petty differences.

Megabugs, The Freestate was officially against any involvement in that war, (or so they said). You will note that many men went along with Gen O'Duffy so your father may have been in army and after that went along with O'Duffy.

Thankyou both for all your help.
I have a very elderly uncle ( a brother of my mother ) living in Australia. He was very close to my father so I will contact him & hopefully he will be able to give me enough info. to continue the search. It's worth a try & there's nothing to lose, so I will be back at a later date.
