Cheeseman/Dyke
« on: Saturday 17 December 05 01:07 GMT (UK) »
Greetings All,
Having a bit of a problem finding information on the following:

Richard Cheeseman  b: abt 1823 Chatham.
Jane Dyke b: abt 1831 SevenOaks.

They married about 1852, I think in SevenOaks.
They emigrated in 1852, left Gravesend on board the Norman Morison 16 Aug 1852, and arrived at Victoria, Vancouver Island 16 Jan 1853.

I do not have any information re the actual birth dates or marriage date, and I know nothing of the parents.

Any help or suggestions along these lines would be great, Thanks in advance, regards Ian.
All the best of the season to all.

Can't find Richard on the 1851 census.
The closest match I could find was born @ 1833, Hawkhurst, Kent
married to Martha & living in Yalding, Kent.

Hi Sue,
Thanks very much for your effort. The one re Jane Dyke fits as far as the age goes, so will be worth my following up on.
As I said in my post, I have no information about the parents/families of either Richard or Jane.
                      Thanks, regards, Ian

Hi Ian

The marriage took place in 1852 and the certificate is held by the Gravesend Registry Office (Jane has been indexed as James and Richard as CHEESMAN)

http://extranet3.kent.gov.uk/sp/rois/marriagesearch.cfm

These are the towns and villages currently covered by the present Gravesend Registry Office

Quote
Ash (nr Ridley), Chalk, Cobham, Crockenhill, Darenth, Dartford, Eynsford, Farningham, Fawkham, Galley Hill, Gravesend, Greenhithe, Green Street Green, Higham, Hartley, Horton Kirby, Ifield, Leywood, Longfield, Luddesdown, Meopham, Milton (nr Gravesend), Northfleet, Nursted, Ridley, Rosherville, Shorne, Southfleet, Stone (nr Dartford), Swanley, Swanscombe, Sutton at Hone, West Kingsdown, Wilmington
  http://www.kfhs.org.uk/kentinfo-1.htm

Parish registers (C of E) for some of these parishes are available online - quite a lot to work through but may be worthwhile to see if you can find it without having to purchase a certificate:

http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/query/results/?Mode=Search&PathList=%2FZ4a_Medway_Ancestors%2F%0A&SearchWords=&DateList

Do let us know how you get on - it may help to locate Richard and confirm Jane in 1851
