At long last, we have secured a DNA sample from the James Todd md 1840 Eleanor Ballyntine of castlemellan and carrickatane, County Tyrone whose grandchildren lived in Glendermot, just to the west of Cumber Lower Parish, County Derry. The DNA matches two other Todd families.
John Todd and Isabella Mowbray of Tonduff, Cumber Lower Parish of County Derry, shown in part below. Son John Todd md 1855 in Dunboe parish in NE Co Derry to Jane Purdy and then moved to Dumbartonshire, Scotland with descendants in Australia and New Zealand. including George Couts Todd of New Zealand.
James Todd who married Jane Craig and lived in Tonduff, Cumber Lower Parish in County Derry. Brother Thomas Todd b 1811. Son Samuel 1847-1890 lived in Gortnaran. His widow Isabella Collingwood Todd and children moved to Ontario with recent descendants living in Stouffville.
It is gratifying to at last have proven that these three families share a common ancestor. More DNA testing would help refine our understanding of their relationships.
