Hi harriet,

Try the following to see if there are any records of the BURNS family:

Otago Nominal Index to 1876:
http://marvin.otago.ac.nz/oni/default.html

Otago Settlers Museum:
http://www.otago.settlers.museum/

Try the local branch of the NZ Society of Genealogists, a list of which can be found on their website;
http://www.genealogy.org.nz/

James b 1863 Ballymoney married Janet Anderson,
John b 1861 Antrim married Emily Dunn ,
MaryAnn b 16.9.1863 Ayre, Scotland married William Stephensen,
Robertb 3.6.1866 Ayre married Jeanie Maclean,
Agnes b 26.5.1868 Ayre,
William b 1871 Auchlintech Scotland.he left school 25.9.1885 & worked in a store.

John & Mary  were Assisted passengers to New Zealand on ship  "Marlborough" which left Glasgow Oct 23 1879 & arrived Jan 7 1880 at Port Chalmers Dunedin NZ . It is presumed the 2 males ( names unknown) plus Agnes stayed in Scotland

Have you come across any of the above during your researching??

Hi Harriet,

Don't know if this will help, but Waikouaiti have their  own District Museum, from what I have been told they hold a lot of local  information about families that lived in the area, some of my family are from the Goodwood area and I believe the museum has a photo of them with other information so they may be worth checking out. I don't know if they have a email address, they can be contacted by writing to

Waikouaiti District Museum
Main Road
Waikouaiti.
