James Haseltine said born 1803 Ockley
« on: Wednesday 14 December 05 10:31 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know anything about James, Gamekeeper Ockley Court. By census born 1803, by marrage cert father John. James died 1880 but the family were at Wallace Farm from 1871 on. !861 at Evershed Farm but no sign in '41 or '51 of him or father, it was a bad print I was looking at. He and his much younger wife had a large family so there must be some others out there, I have contacted one but she could't find his birth either. Please anyone?

Hi,
I have been trying to contact you. I am trying to do the family history for my father in-law (John Charles Hazeltine) and I am sure  James Haseltine is his Great grandfather. I wandered if you can give me anymore information on him.

I know the area very well.

With regard to Wallace Farm - I do not believe that this is in any way connect to Walliswood which back 100+ years ago was just a very small village.

The 1881 census give the address as WALLACE and surrounding properties are, in fact, in Weare Street, Ockley.  I think whoever took the census must have been hard of hearing as he has written Oldbrooks Farm when it is, in fact, Holbrook Farm.  Likewise WALLACE, is actually WALEYS - a very stunning property close to Holbrook Farm.

Google Maps is another good source.  Weare Street is over 3 miles longs and covers Start in Capel and finishes in Ockley.  Both my father in law and my brother in law live in Weare Street - one in Capel, the other in Ockley.

My maiden name is Hazeltine!!  Please feel free to contact me privately as there appears to be some question as to paternity on this side of the family.
