Can Anyone Help - Australia Relative
« on: Sunday 11 December 05 15:20 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any information on:
VINCENT CLANCY born 1920 Lisnafaha, Kildysert, Co. Clare Ireland.
Married in London, England 1947 to Annie Agnes Mitchell.
Vincent & Annie (Ann)  had 2 children Eileen Frances Clancy born 1948 and Vincent Edward Clancy born 1950 both in London, England.
Vincent is known to have gone to Australia approx mid 50's not sure whereabouts. He is believed to have gone alone and possibly Annie and the children followed.
He is thought to have had another child names Claire (Clare) uncertain if this was with Annie (Ann) or someone else?
He is known to have died in some sort of accident on a building site possibly falling from a building somewhere in Australia in approx 1969.

If anyone has any leads, info or can help with any of this it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Clancy,
Don't know how you are going with your inquiry, but thought I would offer this find.  Mostly because the age at death tallies with your Vincent's birth date --No sign of the ACCIDENT in '69  though

Death 1999 Vincent Stephen Clancy, aged 81. Of Narrabeen, formerly Junee.

Hi Clancy,

Just to add to what the others have given you, there is the following on the Victorian Inquest Index 1840-1985:

Vincent Clancy died 1984, Inquest date 1/8/1984.

Reference No. 1085

The Inquest Index includes deaths by accident, murder, suicide etc. etc. between those dates. Unfortunately these are the only details listed for this person so you would need to investigate further to be sure it was your man.

Hope this helps a bit more,

Magoo  :)

Hi Clancy,
I have checked:
1. The National Archives site to see if there is a record for his immigration - no suitable matches.
2. The Ryerson index for newspaper death/funeral notices - no suitable matches (I think that the Vincent Stephen that Sue found could be the one born 1918 in Marickville, whose service record appears on the naa site).
3. The NSW deaths index 1950-1975 - there was an Edward Vincent CLANCY in 1968
4. (Qld indexes only got up to 1964 at present), so I checked The Brisbane city council graves locator - no suitable matches.
5. The Victorian deaths index 1950-1985 http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/servlet/IdxSearch?action=getHistIdxSearchCriteria - 3 matches (I didn't look because you have to pay, and I'm pretty sure that these are available as fiche that I can search for free tomorrow)

NSW has been ruled out as the state. I would guess that if Tas were the state, your family would have said that he emigrated to Tasmania, not Australia, (of course this is just an assumption). Going with the numbers of immigrants, I would say that Victoria, followed by Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and finally the Northern Territory (which at that time was administered by South Australia) were the most popular destinations, and therefore the order in which to search.
I'll let you know what I can find tomorrow.
