Alexander Leitch who married Mary Weir are my ancestors. Their daughter Mary married John Munn and moved to Greenock. Their daughter Mary Munn married Dugald McLarty in Greenock. Their son Archibald McLarty married Margaret Cameron. Their son James Cameron McLarty married Janet Ferguson Dennis. These were my Grandparents.  Their daughter Margaret Cameron Dennis McLarty is still living. I am her eldest daughter and live in Arkansas in the US. I hope you can follow this, it is the first time I have been on this site.

Hi Janice.
I've just joined Rootschat and found all your information on the Leitch family of Glendaruel et al.
They are not a direct relative of mine but they are relative of my wife (Lesley).
Her maternal Grandmother was Jeannie Constance Stalker Leitch b, 17th March 1894 in East Kilbride, d. Dundee 1st April 1969. She was the second eldest of 4 girls and 2 boys - Mary Mitchell Leitch,b. 1890, Ernest Duncanson Leitch b. 1896, Martin Leitch  - Who froze to death in a Lake in Alberta, Canada whilst duck hunting. The  last 2 in the family were Annie Ferguson Leitch and Pearl Leitch who died just a few years ago in West Kilbride.
I am researching the history of the leitch family and thanks to a cousin in Delta BC I have received a lot of information, including a copy of a letter sent to the above mentioned Ernest, who was a farmer in Canada (I don't know where).
The letter came from his uncle who was in Australia having emigrated there sometime before 1891, having qualified at Melbourne Veterinary college in 1891. He saw service in South Africa during the Boer War. His name was John Black Leitch and was the son of John Black Leitch son of James Leitch & Catherine Black.
The letter is handwritten and covers no less than 21 foolscap pages dated 1937. We have managed to transcribe it onto Microsoft Word  so It is a little easier to read now.
If you want to get in touch do so and I'll e-mail you a copy if you would like that.
I hope the my information has been of help to you.

Yours

Hello Alex and Lesley,

I've just this minute received email notification that you made a post to this topic.  James Leitch and Catherine Black are my 3X great grandparents.  Below is a reply I made to Janice a while back.  I'd be happy to exchange info and as I have no details other than a name would be interested in John Black Leitch.

Regards,

Elaine Trafford

Hi Elaine,
Nice surprise to hear from you so soon.Regarding John Black Leitch, I don't know an awful lot about him yet, but I'll give you what facts I have because he is no doubt related.
From his letter I gather he was a vet qualifying in 1891  I am surmising that he must have been in his early Twenties when he wen to Australia.
His father was also Named John Black Leitch and was the son of James & Catherine of Kilmodan. He was also a farmer growing fruit for drying - in fact in the letter I have from him to Ernest Leitch, he tells quite a lot about this farm work. He then goes on to give some family history telling stories about his father and Brother, Andrew who I believe was Ernest's father, but I have yet to confirm this. Fortunately my wife's Mother, still remembers Ernest so I hope to gain some more info from her. I do know the he emigrated to Canada and lived out his life farming there.
You are welcome to any information I have if we could get in touch directly I could e-mail it to you.

Nice to hear from you,
Alex Liggins

Hi to Solong....I am interested in the Kilmodan m/i's. My ancestors were elders in that church and as such, I thought they would have been buried there. Having visited and been unable to see a grave stone (due to the fact that many are fallen and covered with earth), any records would be a great help to me. Hoping that you had a reply from the powers that be.  Heather. N.Z.

Is there anyone out there of these Kilmodan/Glendaruel Leitch families?  I am an admin of a DNA project and am investigating lines which may have similarity to these Leitch lines on the basis of genetic markers.  If anyone out there is, or has a relative who is, a male in the direct paternal line of Leitch (most often this is someone with that surname), please get in touch!  We would love to have you in the project.

Our project is the MacLea/Livingston DNA project.  There is a possibility that MacLea, one name derivation being "son of the physician [leech]" may have, in some cases, used the surname Leitch/Leech/Leach/etc.

Please get in touch if you have questions or interest, or know someone who would be a good testee!

Kyle
