The next step into the unknown.
« on: Saturday 10 December 05 21:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone Ive been I ve decided to try and take one of my branches on my family tree one step further. Ive done alot of research on  a Cornelius Felix marlow born in Scarborough Yorkshire. His father was named as Felix Marlow born 1834 and Sarah Stonehouse who married in 1857. I have their addresses from 1861 on wards in Scarborough Yorkshire. However on a passed down part of my family tree it tells me Felix was born in liverpool and was a mariner. It also mentions an address 12 Garibald Terrace Im assuming its in Liverpool. His father  is given as Thomas Marlow but thats where it stops. If anyone could find the address and possible family in 1851 it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Will,

I'm new to this searching - so not sure how to "do" addresses!!

Can't find Thomas - but a possible wife and kids in 1851?

Susannah Marlow - head - Married - 47 - Hawker - Liverpool
Mary            "          Dau          Unmd - 21 -  "         - Manchester
Ellen            "            "              "          14  - at home  - Liverpool
Michael        "          son   -                   9    -  "            -    "
Joseph         "           "                           6(?)       "           "

HO107/2179
F212 P21
23 Upper Standish St & between
Dale St
Liverpool

Perhaps Thomas and Felix were away that night - she doesn't say she was a widow - anyway one for the back burner!!

Cheers

Keith

Hi Will,

Just had a look in google - there is a Garibaldi St in Everton, Liverpool - even a spare certificate at that address here:

Not sure here - I'll have to type it in and work it out.
1851
No. 10, Court 9, Gore Street, Toxteth Park
Phelix Marlow - head  41 yrs  dock labourer  Ireland Newry
Elizabeth Marlow wife  36 yrs   Newry
Daniel Marlow  21 yrs   Newry
Margaret Marlow daur.  9 yrs  Liverpool
James Marlow son  4 yrs  Liverpool
Arthur Marlow brother 60 yrs   Ireland
1861
11 Ashton St
Daniel (above) is married to Margaret and has 2 children- Felix 2 yrs and Mary A 1 month
I can't find any other appropriate references. As there is such a gap between son Daniel and daughter Margaret - you would wonder where there other children - maybe your Felix - however can't find him in any indexes.
Good luck

Further to the above - when you look at Griffiths Valuation for Co.Down - there are no Marlows for Newry but there is a Thomas Marlow in Kilkeel Parish, Co Down

The one thing I don't want to do is send you down the wrong route altogether but you can think about it!
Best wishes

1861 census RG9 3619 folio 116
Quay Scarborough  Yorkshire
Felix Marlow 26  Liverpool, Lancashire,  Head  Married Mariner
Sarah Marlow 24  Scarbro, Yorkshire, Wife
Sarah J Marlow 2  Scarbro, Yorkshire, Daughter

The next three censuses place Felix's birth year nearer 1833.
FreeBMD has Felix's two marriages

Marriages Dec 1857
Marlow  Felix     Scarbro'  9d 596
Stonehouse  Sarah     Scarbro  9d 596

Marriages Jun 1897
Marlow  Felix    Scarbro'  9d 632
Porter  Mary Ann     Scarbro'  9d 632

I would suggest ordering one of these certificates to confirm Felix's father's name and occupation and to aid searches on earlier censuses.

Regards

Valda
