Unfortunately it is the prime site .... the free bmd site has some of the census information but the National Archives in Scotland retained most of the information. There are various sites around scotland where if you are able to attend in person you can get use of the facilities ... but online, Scotlands People is your best bet.

I've no Grattans in Lanarkshire but have a few in Dundee on my wife's side. I wonder if they were related in someway because as pointed out there were not many of them in Scotland.
