Middlemiss/mas  is a common enough surname in this area of Berwickshire.  I am friendly with one family and know another?

Your line seems to be connected to similar names in the clazie, etc. lines! Do you know who Thomas' grandparents were?

My Middlemiss family moved to Perthshire sometime in the early 1830s?.  They originally lived at Weetywalls near Duns around 1800s.  The father was a coachman, but unfortunately on his son Williams death certificate the christian name was unknown.
Why they moved to Perthshire I do not know, may have been for work, father and sons were all hedgers - William, William and James.
If anyone has come across a Middlemiss as a coachman during the late 1700s I would most delighted to hear from you.
Thanks

A marriage at Oxnam, Roxburghshire, 5 June 1732:  James Midlemost and Isobell Young.

Despite the spelling difference, they seem to be the parents of Agnes Middlemist, who married George Claisye on 2 June 1751 at Coldstream.

Hi, i am trying to find any information on a Agnes Middlemass,Middlemiss. She was the Grandmother of Jasper Stewart born 3/12/1861 Parish of Eccles.Mother was Helen Stewart, farm laborer. Apparently Agnes raised Jasper as he was illigitimate. Father was James Stark. The places,Mersington, Sprouston, Rumbleton have been mentioned. thanks.

Agnes Middlemiss or Middlemist
christened 19 Jan 1735 at Kirk Yetholm
marriage proclamation 2 June 1751 at Coldstream to George Claisye or Clazie
died 3 Nov 1776 at Edrington.

She might or might not be the Agnes you are looking for - the same names kept getting repeated.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I dont think its the same person as she would have died before Jasper stewart was born.He was born 3/12/1861 in Mersington. We cant seem to find any more info on Jasper or his mother Helen Stewart either. We have come to a bit of a dead end.She had him illigitimate and he has the same surname  as his mother so i am wondering if the Agnes Middlmass name is on the paternal fathers side.Which was James Stark from Rumbleton. thanks for the help. There is alot of people named Agnes middlemass, middlemiss etc isn't there.
