Looking for any information on William and Marjory Middlemiss married 1801 Duns. So far can only find 3 children - William, Isabella and James. Would love to go back further with this family but I am having trouble locating any more information on them. All I know is that they left Berwickshire area sometime before the 1830s and went to Perthshire.

I have an Agnes Middlemiss married to george Claise (Clezy, Clazy, etc.)  2 June 1753, Coldstream...the Claise is my line and all its various spellings. The name William is carried throughout the line...

Hi,

Did William, Isabella or James stay in Berwickshire and if so are you interested in info on them? If they are there in 1841 the census would help especially as it quite and unusual name in the area. There is a William Middlemiss married to an Isabella in Duns he is aged 30, does that seem right or did he move with his family to Perthshire?

Dear Emma,

Thank you...Since I cannot locate anything more about either George or Agnes...then it would be logical that they moved and I have not looked at Perthshire.  HOWEVER, in checking some older notes...there is a line that remained in Berwickshire until the death of the parents and the story was they moved "back home" to Perthshire!!

I have these loose ends floating around because I have been unable to prove that George and Agnes are the parents of the at least three sons, William, James and George who are at the top of the lines I have documented to date.

I will take a look at Perthshire...thank you again for jogging my brain!

I may confuse the issue but I went to school at the Berwickshire High School in Duns in the 1940's with Middlemiss brothers, Jim and Dave who lived in Lauder and I believe may still do.
I also knew a Billy Clazie who lived in Coldstream at the same time.

Billie Clazie is more than likely one of "mine" and the Middlemiss boys are probably related as well.  One of the lines left in the early to mid 1800s but there were other children who I always thought remained.  Any idea how to get in touch with Billie?

Thank you...

I don't have any contacts left in Coldstream with email addresses.  One man who would know would be Jock Law, Borders District Councilor who lives in High Street, Coldstream.  You could also try him via the Borders District Council at Newtown St Boswells, Scottish Borders.   If he is still alive he will be around 70.
Middlemiss and Middlemas are not all that uncommon in Berwickshire.

My Middlemiss connections are not too far away in time or distance -  I have Thomas Middlemiss who married Elisabeth Wood in 1842 at Lamberton Toll in East Berwickshire and who later lived at Foulden slightly further inland and nearer Duns, where they had a daughter with the rather unusual name of Hume Jeffrey Middlemiss in 1860-62.  She married William Rae in 1892 at Foulden and they are both buried in the cemetery there, as I discovered only today on rootschat.

I can confirm that there are still members of the Middlemiss family living in Lauder and that there are others across the Scottish Borders -  when I was a child all of our fizzy drinks were made/bottled by Middlemiss of Kelso.
