TRODDs linked to WEST MEON please!
« on: Monday 05 December 05 22:43 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to make links of where any Trodds came from to get to West Meon and where they moved to away from West Meon.

This takes in years from late 1700s to early 1900s. They appear to have disappeared from West Meon, possibly going to the Hampshire Ports. I'm unable to make actual links even though I have much information!

Would be glad of any help.

Hi izziemouse,

Welcome to Rootschat.

There Trodds in many parish churchyards in Hampshire:

Bishops Waltham, Fareham, Alverstoke, Hursley, Porchester, Gosport, Titchfield, Southampton, Winchester, Meonstoke, Upham, Basingstoke, Porchester, Bishopstoke, Chilcomb, Kilmeston, South Stoneham, Twyford.

I could go on....  Did any of them make any wills?  Have any of them got particularly unusual christian names?  Have you searched the Hampshire Record Office catalogue:
http://www.hants.gov.uk/record-office/catalog/

I just got 136 hits when searching the name Trodd.

Nell

Not yet sure of the procedures I am probably getting this horribly wrong and am replying to myself rather than to Little Nell and bearkat as intended! I'll try it anyway in the hope it is still read.

For Little Nell, many thanks for the welcome and advice. I have been tracing Trodds for some time now and have much information going back as far as the 1500s. What I am eagerly needing to know is if anyone out there can help me with definate links of the West Meon Trodds to areas further out (probably the Hampshire Ports), or for information of Trodds and where they were before actually moving into West Meon. Even with all the information I have I can't make definate links. Chilcomb and Kilmeston are new to me!

For bearkat:
thank you for your reply. You may have this information already but are Eliza's parents Thomas Trodd and Sarah Freemantle, married 1833 with Sarah born in St Mary's Southampton? Can't give you any actual links but may be able to help with Trodds as yet unlinked!

Apologies if I'm making errors and ask forgiveness for such. I'm a slow learner but will get there in the end! (albeit the wrong end!). I will try for Look-ups when confidence allows. Got a knock last night as we had a sudden power-cut in the middle of composing a reply!

Help is very much appreciated.  :) izziemouse.
