Comer
« on: Saturday 03 December 05 15:49 GMT (UK) »
Martin Comer, son of a butcher Patrick, born Co Mayo 1821, married in Manchester 10 October 1847.  Martin had a brother John, born 1824 and who married in Manchester in June 1850.  There may have been another younger brother, Michael.

There may have been no end of brothers and sisters, but I don't know anything about them!  Does any of this ring any bells?

Hiya Ttony,

There were several families named Comer living in Co. Mayo in 1856-7 when Griffiths Valuation took place in the County. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php This information on its own may not be much help but should get you started.

All the Best,

Christopher

Many thanks, Christopher.

My new problem (not that I'm complaining) is trying to bridge the gap between the two children born in the 1820s and putative relations still there in the 1850s.  There is a heck of a lot of them in Bekan, however, and maybe that's where I should start.

If anybody else wants to help, please don't think I'll be bothered!

Please contact me if you are still researching the Comer family of Bekan.  I too am interested in the Comer family of Bekan.  Michael Comer had a Son named Matthew Comer who came to Leeds, England and married Bridget Molloy in the 1880's.  They had 2 Sons, Edward and William.  Bridget Molloy died in the 1890's and Matthew Comer who was in his late 30's at this time, re-married but his 2 Sons were not raised by him and his new wife.  One Son was brought up by his Aunt (nee Molloy) in Leeds and the youngest William was sent away to Ireland where he was raised by Matthew Comers sister Bridget Comer who was then married to Michael Mulkeen.  They lived in Tooraree, Bekan Parish.

I am related to the Molloys.

Regards, Carol

Hi Carol,

Are you still working on the Comers?  I am interested in Michael Comer from Lettera, Galway, who went to Sheffield.  This would be a separate family but in the course of my research I have been in contact with a Mr Molloy from Nuneaton who was working on the Comers in Woodfield, which is very close to Lettera.  Are you connected to him?  And do you have any new Comer news?

Steve

Simon,

I have a Michael Comer b1864, son of John and Ellen Comer. Michael went to Sheffield and was  a bricklayers labourer. He married a Margaret Raftery (b 1874) and they raised a family in Sheffield. I have quite a lot of detail on Michaels offspring in Sheffield.

John and Ellen Comer (nee Gibbons) were my Great Great Grandparents. John was born around 1831 and they lived in Glenamaddy. Im looking for more detail on them if anyone can help.

Is there a way to get in touch via this rootschat? as I too have John and Ellen Comer as great-great grandparents, but descended from their son Simon Comer and then through one of his daughters.
