We have just found out our Vickers family come from Workington Cumberland.  We have a William Vickers  1802 and a Alice Anderson 1803 We have them in the 1841 census as living in South Shields Durham with their children the oldest being Elizabeth born in south shields around 1826 so they must have moved there before that date.  I don't know if they married in Workington or South Shields.  I do know that Alice's brothers name was Francis Anderson born 1816 in workington cumberland.

We are looking for William and Alice's parents any siblings etc.

Thanks Geoff thats great we have also now William and Alice's marriage at
St Michaels in Workington on the 17 July 1825.  Now we have to find Williams parent William Vickers and Elizabeth and start tracing the Anderson line.  This never ends.

Hi,
I'm searching my own line of Vickers ancestors from South Shields and would you believe the ones I've found so far include William Vickers and Alice, so here goes - hope it is helpful...
William Vickers born abt. 1801 in Workington, Cumberland married Alice Anderson born abt. 1803 in Workington, Cumberland, sorry I don't know where or when as yet.  Incidentally William and Alice are my own gt. gt. grandparents.  William Vickers and Alice Anderson had six children that I've found, all of which were born in South Shields: -

Elizabeth born abt. 1826- no more info available
William born abt. 1830- lived at 123, Wapping Street, South Shields in 1851, Occupation-Blacksmith
Joseph born abt. 1833- lived at 123, Wapping Street, South Shields in 1851, lived at Heron Street in 1881
Francis born abt. 1836-lived at 123, Wapping Street, South Shields in 1851
Ann Jane born abt. March 1841-lived at 123, Wapping Street, South Shields in 1851
John born abt. 1849-lived at Heron Street, South Shields in 1881, Occupation-Blacksmith; lived at 26, Heron Street, South Shields in 1891, Occupation-Blacksmith.
John married Elizabeth Wood (?when)and they had 5 children I have found, all born in South Shields: -

William L. born abt. Sept. 1879-lived at 26, Heron Street, South Shields in 1891
John born abt. 1880-lived at 26, Heron Street, South Shields in 1891
Elizabeth W. born abt. 1883-lived at 26, Heron Street, South Shields in 1891
Francis born abt. 1886-lived at 26, Heron Street, South Shields in 1891, Occupation-Waterman
Joseph born abt. 1889-lived at 26, Heron Street, South Shields in 1891

The parents of William Vickers born abt. 1801 in Workington, Cumberland are: - William Vickers born July 26, 1774 in Workington, Cumberland and Elizabeth (?) born abt. 1770.

The parents of William Vickers born July 26, 1774 are: - William Vickers born abt. 1735 in Wasdale Head, Cumberland and Mary (?).

The parents of William Vickers born abt. 1735 in Wasdale Head, Cumberland are: - Henry Vickers born abt. 1712 in Haile, Cumberland and Dorothy Whinwarrow born (?).  Henry Vickers and Dorothy Whinwarrow married December 3, 1728 in Gosforth, Cumberland.

I would be most grateful if you should have any further information to add to this, to forward it on!  I'm sure it would be very helpful...

Kindest regards,

David

Hi David
The only additional information I can offer is as follows:
As mentioned previously William Vickers and Alice Anderson were married at St Michaels, Workington Cumberland on 17 July 1825.
Alice died in the March quarter 1867 in South Shields (Vol 10a 353)
WIlliam and Alices oldest daughter Elizabeth was christened on 25 Dec 1825 at St Michaels, Workington,Cumberland according to the IGI

In the 1851 census, Alice's brother, Francis Anderson was staying with them. He is shown as being born about 1815 in Workington Cumberland

I would be interested to know your sources of information linking William Vickers born 1801 with
1. William Vickers born 1774 and his wife Elizabeth
2. William Vickers born 1735 in Wasdale Head and his wife Mary
3. Henry Vickers born 1712

Thanks for all your help
