Hi Brandane,

Herewith the rest of the stuff I got at NRH.

Found Malcolm McTaggart and Jane McTaggart/Mckean in the 1901 census at 20 Carrick Street, Glasgow

Jane McTaggart Wife age 48 born Glasgow

John McTaggart son age 18 Moulders Labourer born Glasgow
Robert McTaggart son age 14 Scholar born Glasgow
Jane McTaggart daughter age 15 Bottlewasher born Glasgow
Rose McTaggart daughter 22 Pottery Worker born Glasgow
Mary Jane McTaggart g/daughter 5 born Glasgow

Robert McTaggart born 7/9/1888 at 20 Union Place
Jane Horn McTaggart born 29/10/1885 at 88 Richard Street
Rose Ann O’Hara McTaggart born 2/3/1877 at 104 Richard Street

And the grandchild-
Mary Jane McKean Mctaggart illegitimate daughter of Rose Ann McTaggart, Pottery worker, born 20 Carrick Street (sorry have missed out the date)

Malcolm and wife Jane both died in 1919

Malcolm died 21st Feb 1919 at Ruchill Hopsital (usual res 26 Brown Street, Anderston, Glasgow). He was 63 and married to Jean Horne McKean and was a Boilermaker Journeyman. ATHER Duncan McTaggart, Blacksmith (dec’d). Mother Rose Ann McTaggart m/s O’Hara (dec’d). Informant Malcolm McTaggart, son, of 34 Brown Street.

Jane died on 12th December 1919 at 34 Brown Street, age 63. She was the widow of Malcolm McTaggart, Boilermaker. Her parents were William McKean, Baker (dec’d) and Naomi McKean m/s Horne(dec’d). Informant John McTaggart, son, of 20 Brown Street.

There is a bit of info in the igi re the McKean family as one of Jane’s siblings appears to have married a mormon. The igi indicates that William McKean was born 10th June 1827 in Ayr to William McKean and Agnes Bone and that he died in 1888. Naomi appears to be the daughter of John Horn and Jane Ross born in Barony, Glasgow in 1826. She died on 21st April 1897.

I also found a marriage for Malcolm McTaggart (born 1881), son of Malcolm and Jane. He married a Margaret Hamilton on 20th April 1906 at 46 St Vincent Crescent, Glasgow (usual address 58 Clyde Street, Glasgow). He was 24 and a Quay Labourer. Father Malcolm McTaggart, Hammerman, Mother Jane McTaggart m/s McKean. Margaret was 22, also of 58 Clyde Street and her father was Alexander Hamilton, Plasterer (dec’d) and mother was Isabella Hamilton m/s Egilton. Witnesses Mary McKean and James McLean. They had a daughter named Mary Mclean McTaggart in 1910.

Duncan McTaggart (son of Malcolm and Jane)died in 1949 and his wife Agnes McTaggart m/s Freeman died in 1931.

Duncan died on 29th June 1949 at 28 Lancefield Street, Glasgow, aged 70. He was the widower of Agnes Freeman and was a Foundry Labourer. Father Malcolm McTaggart, Boilermaker (dec’d) Mother Jane McTaggart m/s McKean (dec’d). Informant Rose McKee, daughter.

Agnes died on 12th May 1931 at 54 Grace Street, Glasgow. She was 55 and married to Duncan McTaggart, Foundry Labourer. Father Thomas Freeman, Ship Rigger (Dec’d) Mother Rose Ann Murphy (dec’d). Informant Duncan McTaggart, Widower.

I tried to find out a bit more about the parents of Duncan McTaggart who was married to Rose Ann O’Hara. As you know his death cert. gives his parents names as Duncan McTaggart, Farmer and Rachel McTaggart m/s Taylor. I have drawn a complete blank on this but have found a Malcolm McTaggart and Rachel Taylor having children in Islay at the appropriate time and wonder if a mistake has been made with the father’s name on the death cert.
Malcolm McTaggart, a son of Malcolm and Rachel, was married on Islay in 1857. He was 28 and both his parents are shown as deceased. He is shown as ‘previously of the parish of Houston, Renfrewshire’ Malcolm sen’r was a Farm ? (sorry can’t make it out- looks like Crook!) Another son, Alexander, died in Kilchoman, Islay in 1858 age 30. He was a single Blacksmith and died of Consumption. The informant was a brother, Neil.

Well that’s about it. Hope you can make something of all this. Need to go and get organised now for going back to work tomorrow. Have been off for more than a fortnight so not looking forward to it!

Isobel

Hi Isobel,
Thanks for all the work you have done in assisting me in my family tree.
I think you are probably correct regarding Malcolm McTaggart and Rachel Taylor. I have long suspected that my family did originate in Islay and have often wondered where the christian names came from.
Good luck returning back to work i also went back after 2 weeks off.
cheers
