1891 census lookup for GALLEAR
« on: Wednesday 23 November 05 04:16 GMT (UK) »
I would appreciate if someone could check these people out for me in the 1891 census:-

George Gallear - head

Alice Gallear - daughter

Henry Gallear - son

I am hoping that they lived in the same house.

Unfortunately I am unsure at this stage when George was born.

Thank you kindly

Regards
Heidi

I'm struggling to find this family - can you tell us anything else about any of them which might help?  Do you know roughly when or where Alice or Henry was born, when/who they married...?

On FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl, I can see a George Gallear b Wolverhampton 1861, d. Walsall 1883 - is this the right timescale?

Dear Rambler

I'm looking for my great great grandfather's father.  My Great great grandfather was John Gallear.  According to his marriage records, his father's name was George Gallear and there were two witnesses - Alice Gallear and Henry Gallear.

Unfortunately I have applied for two birth certificates, one came back with a father's name of Enoch and the other was partially refunded since the father's name was different.  I can find no other trace of a John Gallear b 1877.

I am now grasping at anything to help me out including spelling errors or perhaps he was adopted, etc.  Therefore my thoughts were, that perhaps, his witnesses for hsi marriage were his siblings and it might be easier to apply for their birth certificate.

If you have any thoughts on my dilemma, I would be really grateful.

Regards
Heidi

I've found Claire's family on the 1891 census -  the surname looks like Galleas, which is how it has been transcribed in the index.  However, no John this time...

RG12/2252/115/18 - 58 Bloxwich Rd, Walsall
George Gallear  Head  38  Coal Miner  b. Walsall
Minnie Gallear  Wife  32  b. Cannock, Staffs
Mary Gallear  Dau  12  Scholar  b. Walsall
Harry Gallear  Son  8  b. Walsall
William Cooper  Adopted Son  1  b. Walsall

Harry/Henry are interchangeable - Alice Gallear could be Henry's wife, rather than another sister.

I've found a John Gallier aged 13, born Walsall, "Under Detention" in Bristol on the 1891 census - can't see anyone else who fits at present.  ???.

WOW!!

Thank you so much Claire and Rambler.  No wonder I couldn't find them in the 1891 census if their name has been transcribed incorrectly.

I really appreciate you both looking that up for me.  It has given me some extra names that could help me apply for birth certificates to find out the mother's maiden name.

Kind regards

Not sure if your name is "Gallear" or not, but i've done a website called "The Gallear Family Name Research Site" you may find something on there.
