My Great-Great Grandfather George Chase was Comptroller of Customs in the late 1700's to early 1800's.
Do anyone have any idea on how I can obtain any information on him.

HM Revenue & Customs have a website
www.hmrc.gov.uk
On it there is a history of the dept and a link for genalogical research - don't know how good it is, but it's worth a shot!

Stiff - Monmouthshire & Glos, Parry - Monmouthshire
Stafford - Glos, Liles - Glos, Bright- Glos, Webb - Monmouthshire & Glos, Smart - Glos, Smith - Glos
Sullivan - Ireland, Jones (oh dear! Almost as bad as Smith), Walker - Somerset, Llewellyn
And, no don't laugh...Crump...I think it's great!
And of course, if I ever do manage to do a successful look up it is crown copyright and all that legal stuff!
Seriously Census Information is Crown Copyright, from
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Julie,
Thank you for your information.
I found a copy of his will which I downloaded. However, I am having difficulty reading it.
Thanks again.
Regards
Paul.

You will find a great deal of information on George Chase and his family and business connections in Richard Rose's 'Pembroke People', Otterquill Books, 2000. See
www.otterquillbooks.com
I hope this is useful.
