FOULIS/FOWLIS in Scotland
« on: Tuesday 22 November 05 08:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi, My grandmother's name was Margaret Fowlis Cooper, and her great grandparents were Margaret Foulis and Andrew Cooper, from Balmerino Fife.  I'm looking for anyone who has info. on this surname as I'm at a dead end.
Regards
Audrey

Hi

Thanks for replying!! Yes, my Margaret was born 1838  :D  She is my gg grandmother.
What other info. do you have on her.  I've not got very far with this branch - maybe due to my in-experience or it is just difficult to trace maybe because some of the Foulis people spelt their surname Fowlis.  I'd appreciate any info. you can share with me.  I'm so excited to have received your reply.
Thanks
Kind Regards
Audrey (BizzyMom).

Hello  Audrey

I have sent you a personal message on this

Your Margaret was my 1st Cousin 4R  (if we have the right one!). We share  common ancestors of James FOULIS and Isabella SCOTT (margaret's grandparents)

I am a bit rusty on this area of research as I have been concentrating my efforts south of the border for a while.  So it may take me a while to get up to speed - as well as to blow the dust off the files!

I'm interested in Foulis/Fowles and Russel in Wemyss to see if there is a link with a family south of the border.  In particular Alexander Foulis and Margaret Russel who married in Wemyss in 1793.  I've a separate posting looking for any help with a lookup in the registers.

Came across this today in an old history of Glasgow.

In 1743 the University were able to secure as their printer Robert Foulis, the elder of the famous brothers Robert and Andrew Foulis, whose issues were unsurpassed in Europe for accuracy and beauty.

A thousand eyes must have been searching for you and all from Rootschat !
