Hello,

I was just looking at the Post Office Directory for  Sussex 1878 (at Houghton) - Hurstmonceaux and Gardner Street are next on the page so I took a look for you...

There is a..

Wm Butler, grocer and draper, Gardner Street and
Frederick Butler, farmer, Stunt's Green

Gardner Street is described as a "populous hamlet of Hurstmonceaux parish, on the road from Battle to Hailsham"

No Butlers listed in the 1866 Post Office Directory for Sussex at Hurstmonceaux.

Hope this is of interest  :)
