« on: Monday 21 November 05 18:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
Can anyone help with old postal rates ??
We have an old inland postal spring balance we are trying to date
On the front it reads -
1lb  and under 3d
1lb to 3lbs        6d
3lb to 5lbs        9d
5lb to 7lb     (can't read last number)

Any help much appreciated

Are you sure those weights are pounds?  Even in the days of the penny black the price was 1d for half an ounce.

The basic rate of 3d for a one ounce letter was introduced in the late 1950s
