Thanks Jen- you are very helpful indeed and I do appreciate it!

I have opted for what I thought would be the easy route and so far it has been relatively smooth (until John Cowles)

I have been going back directly through the male paternal line father-grandfather-greatgrandfather etc. I won't divert from that course until I have gone as far as I can with paternal line.

I found John Cowles on 1901 census living with his wife Bessie, Children then in the London area. Not sure why they moved from Wales to London. Odd thing is we were always told that our grandmother's roots were in Wales, not grandfather's so it pays to not rely wholly on these sources for accuracy. Anyway- John Cowles & Bessie Cowles - & children (present on 1901 at least)Frederick John (my great grandfather) May, Maud, Blanche. Gertrude (one of their children)who appeared on an earlier census is not listed later. Found an index for death of child bearing same name & correct as to area of residence then.

As for going back with John Cowles as my next source - I know have the info you kindly provided which backs up  with other info gathered 1881 census on latter day saints is where I first found John Milner Jenkins brother William Hercules. I have logged onto familyhistory online as well today and found 1851 info on there. William the brother no longer appears..

The trail leads on..
COWLES, WAITE, MANINS, BEGLEY, HARRIS,  JENKINS

Dear Welsh Jen,

I am seeking information about my Grandfather's family. He was David Richard Daniel Lloyd, b. 30 Mar. 1905, Edmunton.

His parents were David Lloyd b. 1871, Aberdare and Louisa Currier. Daniel and Emma also  had 2 dau. Emma Louise and Elizabeth.

I know that David had at least one sibling, a brother named Daniel. Both men worked for the railroad. Daniel was seriously injured on the train and retired to Compton Martin near Bristol.

I believe David's grandparents to be Daniel Lloyd, b. 1839 Bredon, Worcester and Emma (possibly Evans) b. 1838 Cardiff.  Daniel worked for the railroad. They had 6 children, Richard (also worked for the railroad) b. Cardiff, Maria b. Pontypool, George b. Aberdare, David b. 1871 Aberdare, Rose Ann b. Aberdare, and Daniel. b. 1875 Aberdare.

Any information I can find that might connect my great grandfather David to these other Lloyds or prove no connection would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Thank you for your posting. I am not sure if you have the 1881 Census details. There were 3 possible matches with the information you gave, but only one with a father named "Daniel":

   Dwelling:   10 Whitcombe St
   Census Place:   Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales

They were not listed on the 1861 Census but I found these on the 1861 Census. These are possible relations:

                                      WOR BREDON                       (c1823)

I also found a marriage 4th April 1836 in Aberdare:
David Lloyd Grooms Parish Aberdare
Ann Gwyn Brides Parish Aberdare

This information is taken from the Glamorgan Marriage Index  1569 - 1837 (which is in PDF format)
I could not see an entry for Daniel and Emma.

I hope this helps you a little.

Thank you Jen for your help. I am thinking the only way to prove that the Daniel and Emma listed on the 1881 Census are my great great grands would be to get a birth certificate for either my great grandfather David, or his brother Daniel, and find their parent's names listed there.

Can you give me any tips as to how to obtain a birth certificate? This would be a request made from the US, so there will have to be money changing involved. Thanks!

I am intrigued by the wedding of David Lloyd and Ann Gwyn in 1836. That would make them the right generation to be parents to Daniel, b. 1839. However I am quick;y learning that Lloyd is a most common Welsh name. Although David, Daniel and Richard are recurring names in my family they still aren't names exclusive to us.  There seem to be rather a lot of them just in Aberdare.

I would like to follow up with the connection my family has to the railroad. I know my great grandfather and his brother both worked for the railroad. Can you advise me as to which railway I would need to contact in Aberdare? Because Daniel's work related accident was so severe, I am hoping there would be records of it, even if I can't find ordinary employment records.

Thank you again for your help. Hope your Easter hols went smoothly and things are quiet again on your homefront.

Hello Maureen I agree this may be the only way of finding out the link for sure.

If you have PDF on your PC you may Guide 3.pdf of interest to you to find this click:
http://www.rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk

&

http://www.rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk/registers%20office/aboutthiswebsite.htm

You can also purchase the certificates that you wish from
http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/ however you have to find the entry you want via the site and that is also at a cost.

I hope this helps you.

Things settling down now after the Easter break. The children are back in school but my 3 yr old still refuses to sleep even one night!

Take care
Jen  ;)

DEAR JEN
I am looking for a Barbara Morgan in 1871. I have found her in 1881 living at Llandough Village. She was then a widow aged 67 so she was born about 1814...birthplace Cowbridge. I have found her in 1891 and 1901 when she was the grand old age of 86!! If you could locate her in 71 61 etc I would be really grateful.
I am also looking for James Morgan, her son, in 1871. He would have been about 18 and I think still living with his mother.
What i really need to know is the children she had apart from James and the name of her husband.
Sorry about the length of reply.
many thanks
Judith
