Kinsella's and Cullens from Gorey, Wexford
« on: Saturday 19 November 05 14:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My ancestors came from Gorey in Wexford. I wish to find the parents of Andrew Kinsella (Born 1887). Andrew had three siblings, John, James and Kate. Kate married Jim Byrne and had five children - Maggie, Kathy, Julia, Anne, Jim and Jack. John and James Kinsella had no children and lived in Hollyfort. Andrew married Elizabeth Cullen. They had eight children together - (*). I am a descendant of Mary Kinsella through her daughter Rosie McNeela.

Elizabeth Cullen had three sisters - Kit, Jane and Mag. Mag married a Connors and Kit married a Breen.

Does anybody know any of these names?

James

Hi there,
Saw your post and my brain started ticking. My mother is from Gorey and I'm sure her father Tommy Nolan was connected to the Kinsellas. Nancy and John lived opposite side of road from my Gfather and Grandmother, I'm sure (*) is still alive and living in (*) see previous message.
I shall have to ring my mother for some info. Let me know if you are still interested and I'll see if my info is connected...........Good Luck!!

Hi Julie,

Sorry for not replying sooner. I have quite a bit of information on the family but I'm trying to find any other Kinsella or Cullen relations, namely any parents of Andrew Kinsella or Elizabeth Cullen. My grandmother goes to see (*) living quite a few times a year, although she lives in England. She said she does know Tommy Nolan, apparently he lived at the end next to the field in Gorey. She does not know of any connection between the Nolans & Kinsellas.
Apparently, Tommy Nolan's only son was born on the same day as Betty Bage (nee Kinsella)  and John died some years ago. I know several people over in Gorey. Unfortunately out of the eight children Andrew and Elizabeth had, only one survives and her memory isn't that great. She can't remember any grandparents.

Hi again James,
Thanks for your reply. I will be speaking to my mum later so I will try and find out if she can recall anything about the Kinsella/Cullens. As for the Nolan link, I found out that my Grandfather, Tommy Nolan, was Betty's Godfather so no direct relation. I think I also mentioned about John in my first reply to you when I meant to put Joe. All this info has me confused. lol.
My mum said she new Rosie McNeela very well so she may be able to remember something. Also do you have info on the Connors? If not we can fill you in as best we can.
I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Good Luck
Regards
Julie.

Hi Julie,

Sorry for the late reply, I'm terrible at keeping track of my e-mails. I don't have any info on the Connors. I know Mag Cullen married a Martin? Connors and had about five children. I also know that her sister Kit married a Breen and had several children but I don't know their names. If you're still available for help, I'd be grateful. If not, don't worry.

Once again, sorry for the late reply.
James

Hiya James,
No need to apologise, I know what its like. I always start something new and forget what I was doing first. LoL.
I've spoken to Mum again and I have the following:
(*) living
Just to let you know that McCurtain Street used to be called William St.

Mum has to have a think about Kit Breen, she knows they lived in Church Street, Gorey. The family where also known as the Church Street Pluckers as they used  to keep poultry.

Mum remembers Jane Cullen (known as Aunty Jane to all the kids) who was unmarried and lived in the house that Martin and Marya moved into at No. 28.
You know it's funny how things turn out. When i was a kid I used to spend all my Summer Hols in Gorey and used to hang around with (*)

I hope this helps you James. My mum said she will try and think hard for anything more.
Let me know how you get on ok.
It's been a pleasure to help you ok so no more apologising!!  ::)

Hi Julie,

Thanks for all the information. From reading the information, she thinks that J.O. moved to London. She also thinks that she went to school with one of his children, Gerald. She's sure that Gerald had a brother named Maurice as well.

My grandmother told me there was something strange with the names of one of the wives she just couldn't remember what it was. Is the name Marya pronounced Mariah?

My grandmother also tells me that Kit Breen had about three children but doesn't know what their names are.

Tell your mum thanks for the info. It all helps. I never knew I had so many relations.

Thanks,
James

Hi Julie,

Thanks for all the info. Where did you get it. My great grandmother was born in McCurtain street in Number 28. Her name was Mary Kinsella and her father was Andrew Kinsella who was a witness at the marriage. I'm having trouble with my computer at the moment so I'll send you this in parts. Whereabouts do you live. We live in the Harrow Weald/Pinner area of London about 6 miles from Wembley.

James
