Hi,

I have been on holiday in Gorey many times during the past four or five years staying in my grandparents bunglalow about 7 miles from Gorey near Craanford. They recently sold it to Joe Kinsella, my grandmothers cousin. His sister Betty runs a B&B at the top of the town near the monument on the Craanford Road. My grandmother thinks she remembers your grandparents Sheila and Tommy Nolan. There were a few things I was going to mention but I can't remember them. When I do I shall let you know.

James

Hiya James,
Sorry it's taken so long to reply, pc is playing up big time.
I used to spend school summer holidays at my grandparents house in Gorey, also stayed at Bettys b&b whilst on my honeymoon, I absolutely love the place.
Marya is pronounced Mariah, my mum still has contact with her, she sends my mum the local Gorey Guardian newspaper http://www.unison.ie/ (this is link for it, you will need to register but it is free).
I live not far from Harrow, in Hayes, small world isn't it!

Anyway great to hear from you again, keep in touch.
Regards Julie

Hi Julie,

Betty was over at the weekend for my gradmother's 70th birthday party. It was a surprise because they're very close and we thought it'd be great if we flew her over. Her daughter Samantha came with her. Betty's b&b is great isn't it. I check the Gorey Guardian website every now and again as well. Where did you get the information about the Cullen-Breen marriage? Great weather isn't it. Anyway, thanks for the reply, take care.

James

Hiya James,
My mother is my main source of information, as well as the odd bit i picked up from been in gorey as a child..
I remember Samantha, i think she is a year or so older than me, from playing in the back lane of McCurtain Street and playing down McRedmonds field and the bogwell, isnt there another younger sister, I forget her name now.........Selina I think.

Oh the memories! God I feel really old now.................Hope your Grandmother had a terrific birthday. Ask her if she knows anything about my grandads (tommy nolan) past family as i have hit a dead end, he was from Ferns originly i think.

Anyway chat again soon
Julie.

James, I read with interest your post re kinsella's, as a child i knew Andrews elder brother john, he was known as jack. As a child jack had come to work on my great Aunts farm as his parents had both died. he was to stay for the rest of his life, working for my grandparents when they inherited the farm. All my family have very fond memories of Jack. If it would be of help I can ask if my mother or her family can provide/ remember details of Jacks parents. I can't remember the detail that was placed on Jacks gravestone as its many years since i have been to visit his grave. If you feel I can help in some way please feel free to ask.  regards Roy

James - - I just read your recent posting . . . "KINSELLs & CULLENs from Gorey, Wexford".  We are chasing common surnames!  Don't know if there are any connections.

You may want to read my posting [submitted tonight, 8 June] . . "REDMOND & CULLEN - Emigrated to Richmond, VA, USA ~1850". My lines from Ireland include Redmond, Cullen, Nowlan, & possibly Gilbert; plus of interest, Ryall.

An older Redmond son, Thomas, in early 1850s married Julia [m-n-u], & they were recorded in the 1860 census records for Richmond, Henrico Co, VA, USA, with kids. Thomas died before 1870, results of wounds suffered in Civil War battles.  Widow Julia (43)- a grocer, was listed in the 1870 census for the Richmond, VA area, with son Edward (17), a stone mason, & dau.s Mary (14), Susan  (9), & Maggie (5)...probably Margaret. Interestly, another person listed in Julia's household was Mary KINSELLA (16) - born on VA abt 1854.  No relationship to the head of household was recorded....she might have been a boarder, a neighbor, a domestic/servant, of maybe a relative [family member] of Julia's.  Hmm!

I do not yet know from where my Irish ancestors came, nor when.  In time, I might find information, which might be of interest for both of us.  I'll file your posting info for later reference.  Regards, Bob Edmondson

stumbled across this thread by accident....

I too have a Kinsella in my tree. Mary Kinsella was the mother of my great grandmother Mary Clancy. Mary Clancy married John Noctor around 1896 and they had 11 children of which the youngest was my grandfather Bernard Noctor born Gorey 1912.

My mother (his daughter) seems to remember being told that one of the female Kinsella's was a well known artist/painter. Can you confirm this tale?

Hi   Rootschat. I am researching Bridget Williams (nee Brien) Bridget was the daughter of James Brien and Catherine Kinsella.  residence Killena born  18thJune 1885 Killena. registered in the district of Killenagh and Wells.
Bridget married William Williams in England 1912.and reared her family there. I know that she had a sibling Mary, and I believe that there were other siblings but I have no names.  I am having a lot of difficulty with this branch of our family I would like to locate other kin. Thankyou in anticipation Joyce.

I have a slew of Kinsellas (Kinsley/Kingsley), Cullens, O'Neills and Murphys who emigrated to the same area of the US together in the late 1830's/early 1840's. They settled in a small rural area of northeastern Pennsylvania, which came to be known as the Irish Settlement. These families are heavily intermarried, both in Wexford and in the US.

The furthest back for Kinsella I have is James Kinsella (born around 1754) who married Mary Sinnott.  They had eight known children - Michael, John, James, Mary, William, Catherine, David and Ellen.

The furthest for the Cullen line is Michael Cullen 1797-1840, who married Elizabeth Murphy. Their known children are Mary, Thomas, David, Elizabeth, Patrick and Joseph.
